You probably are referring to a "roger beep" which can be enabled to make ordinary transmissions annoying to anyone on the receiving end. Usually it is possible to disable this "feature".

Cobra 29 nw when you key the radio the swr meter doesnt move and if you move the swicth to cal you can adjust it with out keying the mike but has good recive any help would be good thanks dwayne

To check the SWR, you put the swicth on CAL and key the mike with mike gain turned down all the way, then calabrate it to the meter on the CAL scale, then swicth it to SWR before you unkey the mike, then what ever the needle falls back to, that is your SWR reading.

Take the cover off,you will need a vom-ohm meter, check the final and regulator,if the led light is working, then its not the keying transistor, check D77,under the mike plug, original #MA27T, the sub is NTE-605A varistor. Also check the mike plug, see if pa works. ..hope this helps..

Superstar 121 with astatic power mic and texas star dx 500 power..when I key up to talk they say I sound like I'm a ways from the mic, but I have a loud roger beep...any ideas....mic?...

try a stock mike or a noise canceling one. Hard to run power on top of power. And see what your radio is dead keying into the radio...usally with a 500 it can take up to a 6 watt dead key.

Ring tone thingy

Setting and Transmitting Call Tones
Your radio can transmit different call tones to other radios in your group so you can alert them that you want to talk.
To set a call tone:
1. With the radio on, press MENU 3 times. The current call tone setting flashes and displays.
2. Press + or - to change and hear the call tone.
3. Press MENU or PTT to set the new call tone or turn feature off.

Could be a number of things. Assuming the mike gain is turned up, the mike or transmit audio circuit may be defective.

Muting the sound

Hi,

The sound produced by a Motorola radio when the mike is keyed refers to the "Transmitting Call Tone" which is another feature other than the "Interference Eliminator" or the "Roger Beep" feature.

On most Motorola GMRS/FRS TalkAbout radios, setting the "Call Tone" to 0 disables the feature. This is done with the radio ON by pressing on the "Menu" button 3 times which will result in the display showing the current Call Tone setting (flashing) and the letters CA; pressing on the <- or +> buttons will change selection (you will also hear the different Tones), select 0 (it may be up to 5 or 10 depending on the version). Press on the "Menu" or "PTT" button to set, save and exit.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
