Tip mch back and locate the lg allen bolt in the center of the magnet and remove counterclokwise. The motor is actually a large magnet that revolve around a stator, a series of windings. Pull hard and place magnet away from any metal. Once off, remove the bolts holding the stator to the base and on the reverse side is the rps sensor. It looks like a wedge and is clipped onto the stator.

SOURCE: F51 & F72 Codes

The F51 error code indicates that the control is not sensing proper motor movement through the signals from the RPS (rotor position sensor) circuit. This can be caused by several different problems. Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Overloading can cause this problem. A toy or foreign object could be under the washer that is interfering with motor rotation. With the washer empty, spin the basket inside the washer tub to see if it spins relatively easily. If not, you could an item caught between the spin basket and the tub. You could have a wire harness problem causing signals to not be transmitted properly between the RPS and the machine control board. A failed RPS sensor or a failed control board could also cause this problem.

Basket Re-engagement Failure.

F then 72 flashes when the basket check routine fails to determine if the basket is re-engaged after being disengaged.
Is the basket floating? If yes, pump out water. See Long Drain.
Does basket turn freely? If not, determine cause of friction.

The F50 error code indicates that the RPS (rotor position sensor) detects no motor rotation. Check to see if the basket spins freely. If not, you could have an item caught between the outer tub and the inner spin basket. A toy or other item underneath the washer could also prevent the basket from spinning and would result in this F50 code.

If the basket spins freely, you could have a wiring failure that would prevent the motor from spinning.

Hello,
There actually is a class action law suit against whirlpool for this error code well not the error code but the machine itself. I have also had the unfortunate task at one point of fixing this error code. It basicly comes down to replacing the rps sensor, the stator which is the motor, the control board, and in my case I even had to replace the wire harness from the rps sensor to the control board as well. I would try calling whirlpool and see if there are able to provide any support for the machine. Hint while calling them stateing that all you household appliances are whirlpool as well seems to add some leverage. If you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation. I await any questions that you may have. Thanks Rick

WHAT DOES CODE F51 MEAN ?

The F51 error is a RPS (rotary position sensor) board failure where the control board looses contact with the RPS during the machines operation. The RPS uses hall effect sensors to determine the speed and direction of the drive motor, allowing the control board to constantly monitor the motors operation. Because this error is a communication error and not a mechanical error with the motor itself (that would be and F52 error) we can limit our trouble shooting to the three items that make up the RPS circuit, the control board, the wiring harness, and the RPS itself.
