Question about Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Memory Twice now the entire library of pictures we saved completely erased. We're not sure how they're erasing... we must have accidently pressed a button that deleted them but how can it be that it's so easy to erase ALL the pictures? I feel like there should atleast be a prompt that asks "delete all pictures? yes or no" like there is with text messages and emails or anything else. Is there a way to get our pictures back? Is there a back up memory??

Re: memory

I had the same problem. I think if you go into the menu area and somewhere theres an option called "format" I pressed it and all my pics just disappeared without any warning. I've just learned to steer clear of the format option.

Re: memory

Assuming you can access the card in your computer either via the camera or via a card reader you do have a chanve of getting some back - the latest batch and some of earlier sessions if not over written Go to and download PCInspector, Install the program and run it. direct it to the image source and run the program- see what happens

How do I clear the internal memory?

This should do it - this comes from the manual Formatting will do what you want.

Formatting an SD Memory Card or Internal Memory This utility formats the internal memory (or memory card) and erases all stored images and data. 1. Press the button to turn on your ViviCam 3785. 2. Press the MODE button twice to enter [ ] Playback mode. Then press the button to enter the Playback menu. 3. Select [Delete] by using the / buttons, and press the button. 4. Select [Format ] by using the / buttons, and press the button. 5. If you want to format your SD memory card or the internal memory choose [OK] by pressing / buttons, then press the button to confirm. To cancel the action, select [Cancel] instead. [No Image] pops up after the SD memory card or internal memory has been formatted. Note: Be sure the SD memory card is properly inserted into the camera before formatting it. To format the internal memory, be sure to remove your SD memory card first. Formatting will erase all information (even unrelated , non-camera data) from the memory/card. For complete compatibility, be sure NOT to select FAT 32 as the file system when you format the SD card in your computer. Memory cards formatted in FAT 32 file system will not be recognized by this ViviCam 3785.

Pictures will not load to memory card

first of all make sure you have choose the memory card as your default option to save pictures. if you are sure about this, secondly make sure your memory card is working. the golden boxes ( metal plates) in memory card should not be covered with dirt so make sure you erase the gold plate with a eraser(rubber) and make sure it is gold in colour and re insert it into your camera . else try with a different memory card

My memory card on the Stylus 410 digital is full. I have downloaded all photos and would like to erase the entire memory card. How?

Do you have a manual? Here is a link to the manual:

Olympus Stylus 410 Manual

You have to navigate through the menu to get to the ALL ERASE or FORMAT selection.

When you turn the camera ON and press OK, you will get the "first menu". Press the right arrow to enter the Mode Menu. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the above item. Once on ALL ERASE or FORMAT, press OK.

Also, here is a quick start guide:

Olympus 410 Quick Start Guide

Scroll down to Section 5 for instructions.

You can save the manuals to your hard drive for future use once opened.

Thanks for using Fixya.

My camera stopped saving pictures to my memory card. It seems as if I am taking a picture, but when i go to view it it isn't there! I have tried multiple memory cards to be sure that it is the camera and...

With no card in the camera, try to view the pics. If they show up, they are being stored in the internal memory. It must be formatted to completely erase it before the camera will start saving to the memory card.

Erasing the memory card;

All pictures in the internal memory and/or on the memory card can be erased at once. This is accomplished through either formatting or the "all-frame erase" function. I copied the following instructions from the advanced manual, which can be downloaded here: Adobe reader should open that file with no problem. If it doesn't, that's another issue altogether.

1. Enter playback mode by pressing the play button.
2. Press the OK MENU button.
3. Press the right arrow button (next to the lightning bolt) to access [MODE MENU]
4. Then, press the down arrow to access the [MEMORY(CARD)] tab.
5. Select the [ALL ERASE] function.
6. Select Yes and press OK MENU.

(You'll need to use the arrow buttons to navigate the menus. Please see pg 16 of the manual for instructions on how to do so.)

Note: when the memory card is in the camera, it will erase the pictures off the card. When the card is removed, the function above will erase the internal memory.

Deleting all photos

It's on <a href="">page 91</a> of the
<a href="">User Manual</a>

In the playback mode (ie shutter closed and press "quick view") press "OK" (the centre button!)
select MODE MENU (right),
CARD (down twice),
CARD SETUP (right twice),
"ALL ERASE" should be highlighted, (up/down will toggle between "ALL ERASE" and "FORMAT"), with "ALL ERASE" highlighted press "OK",
press up to select "YES", then hit "OK".

That's it you are done.

Picture card

You can buy a cheap multi card reader at an office supply store, Best Buy, a computer store or a photographic supply. Use the card reader to read your memory card from your computer

Erasing pictures

If you erase them off your memory card they shouldn't be transfering back onto your computer. I would say that maybe they are saved on your internal memory of the camera also. Take your memory card out and see if when you turn the camera on you have pics in the camera stored. If you do delete them then. :)

Yes and in several methods as below listed. Since your posting refers to a generic problem for all digital cameras and not only an Olympus FE-230, some of the settings may have a different nomenclature or button name.
1. When you download pictures to you PC, rather than copy, select move; or
2. If you want to erase one picture at a time from the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow down/up, you will be asked to erase the picture displayed, select yes/no by up/down, then press OK (menu button); or
3. If you want to erase all contents of the memory card of the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow right, down to select card, right to select card setup, right to enter card setup, arrow down to select format or erase all, OK. Erase all just erases the files, format erases all and re-initialize the memory card; or
4. Remove memory card from camera and insert into a memory card reader attached to USB of your PC. The memory from the camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.
5. Connect the camera via the supplied cable to any USB port of your PC. The camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.

Specifically for an Olympus FE-230:
1. Press the < or > buttons to display the picture you want to erase;
2. Press the trash can button (bottom right);
3. Press the UP button to select [YES], press OK;

To erase all:
1. Press the MENU button to display the top menu in playback mode;
2. Select [ERASE], [ALL ERASE], and press OK;
3. Select [YES], and press OK

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
