How do you work the garlic press

Its easy . Open the two handles. Place the garlic basket screen into the well of the press. Before adding the garlic. Take a large butcher knife and cutting board. Place unschucked garlic cloves on the board . Lie the knife in a flat orientation on top of the cloves. Strike the side of the knife onto the garlic. Until the shell splits to easily remove the cover. Place the cloves into press and squeeze out garlic paste. Add one after another. Scrape the bottom of the screen press when a build up prevents pressing. Cleanup by removing the press bucket from the press. Wash the screen backwards while using a tooth brush or equivalent. Place in to Dishwasher utility basket for a thorough clean. If not . Air dry. Garlic is a joy. Have fun with it.

Does pressed garlic get you as much garlic from a clove as chopping it?

No, there will always be less garlic when you press it. There is the most garlic from a clove when it is minced with a knife.

If making a paste, is it better to use a garlic press or chop with a knife?

It's much better to press the garlic. When you press it, it comes out much more mushy. There will also be no large pieces leftover.

Does the garlic presser ruin the garlic quality?

Tons of different opinions here. Some people say that the press makes the garlic bitter because the sprout is pressed too. Also that the press loses all the essential oils.

Can I use jarred, pre-minced garlic as a good substitute for mincing it myself?

Don't do it! Those are gross and have additives. The real deal is way better. If youre lazy just buy powdered garlic powder or use a garlic press.

Is pressed garlic better than garlic powder?

I think fresh garlic is less strong than powdered so you just need to use more of it. Also depends on what youre making. And how lazy/time pressed you are. Most people swear by using cloves and not the powdered stuff but I don't think its so bad to use powdered garlic.

Is it better to use garlic press or to just cut up the garlic?

Some people find garlic presses tedious and hate the cleanup. Or they fear it ruins the taste or quality. I usually use a press because I find it faster and can use a couple cloves at a time and don't need to peel them. Also chopping with a knife has me fearing for my fingers. There are definitely mixed reviews on this one though. Some people are passionate about chopping and some enjoy their presses. I'd advise you to try both and see what method fits for you. Also it depends how thin you want the garlic. For a dressing, I think pressing would be better but for a chicken dish, chopping would be.

What is a garlic press?

A garlic press is a kitchen tool where you crush garlic quickly. You put the clove into the press and press down, pressing the clove through small holes to the other side. The garlic then comes out crushed.
