Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Mde9316ayw I have a Maytag mde9316ayw dryer. The unit began buzzing only when pressing the start button and the timer seemed dead. I swapped out the timer and now I can hear it working however the unit still only buzzes when I press start. I bypassed both fuses, motor seems to check out, what could be the issue?

Sounds like u got a bad motor. try holding the lid or door switch in while u press the start button. if u give the tub a little help and it starts going then it is the motor.

SOURCE: Buzzing noise when pressing start button

does the buzzing noise sound more like a hum, if so could be a bad motor or possibly something stuck in blower wheel.

SOURCE: Amana Dryer won't start

Depending on your interpretation of the 'buzzing' sound compared to mine, I'd say it may be a relay chattering or the motor trying to start up but the windings are beginning to fail. You may want to clean the motor housing from dust etc and make sure that you do that with the power disconnected. Also: with no clothes in teh dryer..try rotating it around and feel for any spots in that rotation that may be binding.. if the drum has excessive restriction while rotating.. the motor may not have enough torque to overcome that and just buzz,,, Hope that helps...

SOURCE: Amana gas dryer wont start. just makes a faint buzzing noise

The drive motor starting capacitor is likely dead. This can be tested if you are competent enough to take the thing apart and use an electronic multimeter. Otherwise it is a cheap part to replace, depending on how much the repair guy charges for labor and to be called out.

I have worked at sears appliance have come across exact or similar problems. You push the button and you hear something like a loud buzzing. My experience has been that the drive motor is locked and needs replacing. Depending on the age of the dryer and the cost of a motor and installation, you might but another dryer.

MY MATAG #MDE9316AYW RUBBING SOUND NO START WHEN HOT

the drum of the dryer that holds the clothes has a seal surrounding the entire front of the drum. once dried out alot of build up is accumulated and will cause your problem. also the belt and tensioner should be looked at as well when opened up for inspection

Makes buzzing noise when pressing the start button but doesn't always start

With the dryer off, try to turn the drum by hand 1/4-1/2 turn, then turn the dryer back on and push the start butteer and see if this helps.
Sometimes motors get a dead zone in them and this will help move it from the dead zone.
If this does not help then your problem could be a bad motor, broken belt, faulty start switch or faulty timer switch.
Hope this helps

Maytag MDG9316AWW Wont start

HI again. this seems to be a wiring harness issue. there may be a lose wire connection or some corrosion on the couplers that are connected to the timer and push button starter. I recommend checking all wires and clips for lose and corroded ends. make sure the clips aren't touching any other individual wire clips. The second issue may be the timer itself. it may have some damage with in the circuitry.

This reoccurring issue leads me to believe that there is something abnormal within the current flow. this. This abnormality is continuing to blow the starter switch. there are only three areas you can check to find this issue. the timer itself should be check for proper voltage and the wires and harness should be inspected as well. The last check would be the terminal block. Check the terminal block for lose power cord wire connectors.

If you have anymore question, please feel free to ask:)
