Question about Atari 7800 Console

3 Answers

No A/V! I recently found an Atari 7800 in a local trash can...ya. Ive bought an RF Modulator from Radio Shack. I used A/V cables to hook up the console to the Modulator, and used Coax cables to the tv. I set the Modulator to channel 3, as well as the system, but no audio or video.

The 7800 had a built in RF modulator. The signal outputted through the RCA jack on the back is either channel 3 or 4, NTSC standard. Plug in a long RCA lead, and use an adapter to convert RCA to the COAX F type connector, and you're up and running!

DOES THE SYSTEM POWER LITE GO ON? IF SO THE PROBLEM IS MOST LIKELY A DIRTY GAME. YOU NEED TO CLEAN EVERY GAME BEFORE PUTTING IT IN. MIX ALCOHOL AND WATER, 1 TO 1 AND USE A Q TIP TO CO UP AND DOWN THE CONTACTS. IF THEY ARE BEHIND A PLASTIC DOOR, STICK A SMALL SCREWDRIVER IN THE HOLE AND IT WILL MOVE BACK. OTHER THAN THAT, YOU SEEM TO HAVE DONE EVERYTHING RIGHT.

Hello!

When powering the stuff there should be light indicated that there is a power on it. how ever if these not been observed, power adapter maybe busted. try to fix it or replace it. Please refer to the atari manual for the correct operation of your stuff.

HOW DO I HOOK UP MY SUPER NINTENDO TO A TV THAT DOESN'T HAVE AUDIO/VIDEO HOOK UPS?

You need an RF modulator or a modulator and a A/V switch (to avoid Daisy-chaining the game system to the DVD/VCR). These are available at many electronics shops (Radio Shack, etc.)

Here is one RF modulator: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103095 . There are many more out there; however, these days some stores may only have them in their online inventory.

I hope this helps.

I found my dads atari set from the 70's or 80's, how can I hook it up to our current tv?

Try getting an RF Modulator from somewhere like Radio Shack...you can run it through that, into the TV.

Here are a couple of links I found that might help you out more though...

Connect magnavox dvd to ge tv HELP!

You need to go get an RF modulator. They can be purchased at Radio Shack or a number of other electronic shoppes for a reasonable price.

The RF modulator connects to the coax cable connector and it has inputs for the RCA connectors.

Cheers ... Best wishes

You need a coaxial cable with an RF modulator. Better yet, there are several ORIGINAL Atari 7800 RF consoles for sale on eBay for $4 to $5 a pop. Have fun!

Atari 2600 Jr. Video Issue

You can't run a 2600 on composite. Even though the connector looks the same it isn't. You need a RF modulator to seperate the signals and you need an old school one that has a manual switch on it. Check at Radio Shack they carry things like that.

Modulators with AV jacks like I use for watching my DVD on when I only have a coax on my television won't work becuase the atari line doesn't separate the signal outside the box by audio and video. That wasn't something being done 30 years ago. In fact it wasn't being done until NES came out.

If Radio Shack doesn't carry it you can probably find one on E-Bay.

You can always find classic Atari 2600 games for your PC. I know I play the Activision Games that way from time to time.

Good luck on that.

yeah its the right thing. Hook the RF Modulator to the cable connector on the back of your TV. (the one with the threads) and hook the cable from your Atari (its a AV cable) to the RF Modulator. set the little swithch on your Atari to chanel 3 or 4, then set your TV the the same channel and enjoy your Retro Gaming goodness (I Love My Atari 2600)
