RC 392M remote doesn't work

Okay, i was a college student and my last year in school one of my **** roommates had a party, didn't move my stuff in advance and someone spilled beer all over my RC 392M remote. It hasn't worked since (2 years ago). I am just now trying to take it apart to see if some contact cleaner will make it work again. The problem is that I don't know how to get it apart. I have removed the three exposed screws, and have been able to pry apart the bottom half of the remote (where the batteries are) but it appears that it wont give on the top end, and I think there is a tab or something hanging me up. Can anyone help me figure out how to crack the baby open without cracking it in half? Thanks, Ryan

They usually just snap together, but whatever's been spilled in it may be binding it like glue. Try flexing it by twisting and bending to break the "beverage goo glue"

The original remote didn't work. Guy at best buy said it was probably the remote not the reciever. I bought a logitech harmony remote for my system and that doesn't work either. Where should I...

its the pick up in the receiver , not the remote, you didn't list a make and model, but things like this usually need a shop unless your very qualified to repair it

I bought an Onkyo receiver from a second party and need the instructions for the remote. He sent 2 - RC-687M and a RC-747M. Not sure which is the correct remote.

One way to find out would be to determine the model of the CONTROLLED device instead of the RC.

Then go here and plug in the device type. It will come back with a picture of the remote that works with it. Blow up the picture and look at the details, maybe even make out the remote's model number. Either way, they look quite different so you should be able to figure out which belongs to the receiver.

Lost the remote control. I don't like those READY

The original looks to be an RC-392M...

But they're also available on eBay.

Search "Onkyo rc392m remote" and check the 'include description' box.

Sony receiver does not change components

Check to be sure that none of the buttons are stuck on. With the unit off, press each of the buttons. You should be able to feel the button engage. If they all feel like they are working, the internal switch itself may be shorted in the closed position.

Update this with what you find.

Replacing a lost remote for TX-SR 700 with RC392M

Not sure what your question is exactly. If you're wondering whether a different remote will work with your receiver, try going to a site that sells replacement remotes ( and see if the same replacement covers both models.

If you can't program a programmable remote because you lost the original, you may need to buy a replacement for the original. The same site has cheesy but cheap replacement remotes.

Or, you can buy a universal programmable remote that gets its codes from a website. You plug the remote into your PC, go to the website and enter the model numbers of the equipment that you have. A friend has one of these; I think LogicTech makes it. Of course, the programmable remote that you have now will have no purpose.
