First of all test that your remote works, programme it with another television/vsr or aux. Every universal remote has there own code for a specific television, offen there are many codes for the same brand, just test them all. I bought a HQ remote and I had like 20 codes but none of them worked. Then I looked in my HQ manual and programmed the code for Orion vcr and now it's working great. The code was:1053. Good luck.
I assume that pushing the channel up and channel down buttons does nothing. You could try unplugging it overnight and see if it's forgotten its settings come morning.
But if that doesn't work, you're probably going to have to get a universal remote and program it to your TV. Quite a number of TVs (and DVD players and VCRs for that matter) no longer have a full set of controls on the TV. Some things just can't be done without the remote (a fact that really irritates me).
We had this same problem, and this is what resolved it. Unplug the tv from the wall, wait a minute, plug it back up, and turn it on again with the "power" button. This worked for us (without a remote).
Turn the set on, hook the cable directly to the TV, take the remote control and press 1 - 1 and if the TV tunes in channel 11 then your set is fine. If the TV was autoprogrammed when hooked to a cable box then the only channels that will be stored in memory are 3, maybe 4 and AUX. To correct this simply go back into the menu and look for the "autoprogram" option and perform the autoprogram while the cable is directly connected to the TV, without a cable box.
