Benefits of dog treats

Dog treats offer several benefits for dogs. I'm going to discuss two of these benefits here: oral health and training aid. Let me begin with dental dog treats. Most dog owners can agree that dogs have a pretty bad smell from their mouth. By providing them with dental treats, the smelly odor can be subsided and the dog can have tolerable breath. Another oral issue that dental treats take care of is the build-up of plaque and tartar around the teeth. The optimum way for dogs to get rid of the plaque and tartar is by chewing. So by giving them chewable (dental) treats, you are helping them get rid of the plaque. In regards to training aid, treats are given as part of the training process. If you noticed, when dogs get trained, they get treats as rewards. This tells them that they are doing the right thing. And dogs love treats! So they know that they must be good at training to receive treats. As you see, it's a win-win situation for both the dog and the dog owner: the dog gets trained and gets to eat delicious treats.

I want to buy Arm & Hammer Nubbies, but I am unable to find them on the web.

I think Arm & Hammer no longer makes them. Not carried any longer by PetSmart and can't be found on A&H's web site. It's too bad, my chihuahua mix loved them.

Which treat are best for my dog training?

When using treats as a training tool, you should choose a small dog treat, whether it's crunchy or meaty. You should make sure that your dog can quickly consume the treat.

Are treats a must for dogs?

You don't really have to give your dogs treats as far as nutrition is concerned. They get all their nutritional needs from commercial food. However, treats can be nice once in a while and can strengthen the bond between you and your dog. Of course, dogs love them and just like humans, they should be able to eat delicious treats here in there.

My dog has horrible breath. Are there any treats that can help sure this problem?

You can either buy treats or make some yourself at home. For homemade treats there are several recipes online, I have found a great one that works miracles for my dogs.

Treats used while training should be small in size. I highly recommend small treats with good natural flavors. My favorite treats are from Foster & Smith, I will send you the link for great training treats.

Does it matter what kind of treats I buy for my dog?

Yes it does. You need to consider a few factors before buying your dog treats. What is the purpose of the treats? If they are intended for training, then you should look for small sized treats. How often do you plan on giving your dog treats? If your idea is to reward your dog frequently, then I would suggest buying low-calorie treats (help your dog stay slim). How old is your dog? The older the dog, the harder to chew.

Before buying treats for your dog, you should really take these factors into consideration.
