Freezer works fridge does not on a GE GSS22QGMC BB

Hi, my freezer works, fridge does not on a GE GSS22QGMC BB side by side. I replaced the defrost heater that looked burnt and everything was fine for two weeks. Now the coils are freezing again. The new heater still looks fine. I read it might be the timer or the thermostat? How can I troubleshoot this issue and get the appropriate replacement parts? Any help would be most appreciated.

You need to take freezer evaperator cover off , then turn it to defrost and test the supply voltage across the defrost element. if no volts then test the round disk looking thing with 2 wirers comming out of it . with the supply power removed from the power point, the coil frozen up , disconnect these wirers and use a continuity checker such as a multy meter on diode check or buzzer mode, you should have a closed circuit through the defrost termination thermostat (round disk with 2 wirers) , it is in series with the defrost element thus cutting the power to the element if the coil temp gets too high and terminates the element , the timer will time out after it's time duration is reached. A good way to test the motor in the timer is to put a texta mark on the dial of the timer and check it in 1/2 hr, to see if it has moved.AFTER YOU HAVE PUT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS BACK AFTER TESTING THE TERMINATIN THERMOSTAT AND MADE IT SAFE, YOU WOULD PLUG IT BACK IN.
The defrost timer needs to be connected to power of the fridge to opperate.

My GE model GSH25KGMB BB side by side refrigerator is not cooling on fresh food side. Freezer and ice maker side working fine. How should I troubleshoot this?

On your model I would go straight to the defrost heater and defrost thermostat and check them first after defrosting the evaporator first with a hair drier. Both parts need to be replaced=> WR51X10055 Defrost Heater Assembly 25953576-emtx2i4tcmlh0qfjbwwrn2z1-2-0.jpg and the=> WR50X10068 Defrost Thermostat APPLIANCE 911

I have a GE side by side refrigerator GSS22JEMB BB. The defroster heater was replaced. How do I know if the defroster is working properly. Can I manually manually make the fridge go into defrost mode? Also...

To go into defrost manually : Remove the 10"X13" panel from the back of the fridge . You will see a plug with 3 larger wires going to it . Unplug this plug ( UNPLUG THE REFRIGERATOR FIRST ) . The blue receptical will look like this wire#1,wire#2, space , wire#3 . Use an insulated jumper inserted into the receptical to wire #2 and #3 . Plug refrigerator back in . You will be able to see the glow from the defrost heater if the freezer is cold enough and the bimetal is good .

Some models , when the freezer door opens , the fan will keep running and others , the fan will stop , until the door is closed .

There will be a slight stream of cold air at the top of refrigerator section due to the fact , that if it was a larger stream , food would freeze on the top shelf of the refrigerator section .

Ge Fridge not cooling

Make sure that the light in the ref side is not staying on when the door is closed. Could have a bad door switch. Probably have a defrost problem in the freezer. Check to see if there is a lot of frost build up on the inside/back of the freezer. If there is then you have a bad heater or defrost thermostat or a bad timer. Also another possibility is make sure the freezer fan is working. If there is no circulation of air then the fresh food side will get warm. Then replace evaporator fan motor.

Fridge does not get cold

I had the same problem. The problem was my freezer was not defrosting itself and for a while i opened up the back and manually defrosted the freezer with a hair dryer (to make it defrost faster) and lots of towels (to soak up all the water). I replaced the defrost heater in the freezer and no more problem. Go to searspartsdirect.com and put in your model # then look for the part. Hope this helps.
