Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ20

Camera will not turn on. I've had it since June 06, only minimally used (700 pics). It has always been handled very carefully, always kept in case, never been dropped, banged up etc. The battery is fully charged as far as I can tell (the indicator light on the battery charger goes off 1 minute after it's plugged in). However Panasonic customer support says it could be the battery is not taking a full charge. I've ordered another battery but I'm afraid it could be something else.

My dreaded suspicion has just been confirmed. The problem lies with the camera not the battery. Now my dilema; do I spend $200 for repairs or do I chuck the thing along with the pricey (and useless) accessories? 70% of me wants to try repair (I can't help it...I love the camera) and the other 30% is just plain disgusted with Panasonic altogether (I had a camcorder that started to eat tapes after 1 month. I sent it Panasonic 3x for repair only to get it back with the same problem).
    Thanks.

Hi Johnny... according to my local repair shop, the actual problem lies with the lens mechanism. The way I understood it is if the mechanism ceases to operate, the camera does not power on. It can stop working at any time no matter how carefully the camera is handled (which I found out is quite common in Panasonic cameras). A manufacturing flaw? Who knows. It's a costly repair (approx $300 is the estimate I was given). After paying that much when I bought it, I decided to cut my loses. A shame really, because it was a darn good camera; but quality wise, the pits.

Whatever your decision, I hope you have better luck than I had. Take care.

In case new batteries will not solve your problem and since your camera is still under warranty you should ask Panasonice to take care for it !!!!! Good luck!

The DMC-FZ20 works with MMC and SD cards, 2GB or smaller. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card, which fits into the slot but is electronically incompatible.

Single exposure, double download????

From your description, your problem may be using the same card in two different cameras. You will need to format the card in the Lumix to get it to work properly. This will erase the card so download any important pics first. Then, stop trading cards between cameras.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20

The lens can not move due to an obstruction.

Gently put some force on the lens, turn the camera on and it works.

Best regards from Holland!
