When importing pictures from either camera directly or via SD card, some of the photos appear to be corrupt when using Vista computer. When I use XP computer, I have no issues at all with the import and photos display fine. I have used Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Live, Photoshop and Nikon software on Vista PC to import photos and have same photo corruption issue regardless of software being used. Picture may show anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 grayed out after the import. Sometimes the color is way off (ie. all blue or all pink). Sometimes I am able to simply Copy and Paste the problem photo and photo will then show. Other times, I have no success at all and the photo remains corrupt. When the thumbnails are being created, Thoughts on what could be causing this error and how to fix it?
there are 3 possible issue that could be this causing this problems first is your processor. a lot of people with amd processors are having compatibility issue resulting to the stated problem. second is the video card in use. nVidia is sometimes having compatibility issue with amd processors third is that all your hardware drivers are old. try to update all your hardware drivers.
try this work arounds:
1 - Turn off the viewing up thumbnails in folder performance option.
or
2-
Copy all new images off of the card without opening the actual folder.
Burn the folder to disc as a backup. Then you can attempt to explore
the thumbnails in windows.
vista is causing the error. its a sucky op sys. have you considered downgrading, or perhaps putting ubuntu in as a second op sys from within windows? i would say that probably vista has the wrong drivers loaded for god knows how many of your devices. could be video, or video and card reader, and cam. if it works fine in xp, than at least you know your hardware and your card and cam are ok. you could honestly spend a week or a minute trying to find a reason why vista does freaky things but the reality is that its just unstable, clunky and a poor, poor excuse for an op sys. 80 percent of people who have vista dump it within the first 90 days of owning the pc or laptop.
