Cant connect my sony camcorder to comp via usb

I always use ulead software otherwise you could have a digital interface problem . Is there a comp usa ,frys or similar place you can take your camcorder to to hook up and test it?

was SP 3 installed at about the same time as these problems began? I have seen many problems"suddenly" appear after applying that SP..if you can uninstall it.

if you're using windows vista u need a firewire or ilink cable that goes in to the dv port of your camcorder.

if you're using win xp. just download the usb driver on this website:

What Windows (XP or Vista) your are running in PC?
Is there any error message comes when you connect Sony DCR-HC18E with PC?
Does PC sounds Ding when you connect camera at USB port?

I could not find the manual for this model on the web, so I'm giving you my best guess.

I found some information that said you could transfer still images and Motion-JPEG video clips to your computer using the USB port.

In general you cannot transfer video to your computer using a USB. To transfer video from most camcorders you need a DV (Firewire, also called 1394) cable. You also need some software.

I'm thinking that when you have an SD card in your camcorder there's some way to tell it you wish to record Motion-JPEG clips to the card rather than full video to the tape. If you've created a standard recording I don't think you'll be able to transfer it with USB.

I believe Windows Movie Maker will let you connect to your camera using a DV cable. I used software called Scenalyzer. A full demo is available free of charge at www.scenalyzer.com. The demo will leave a "watermark" on your video. If you like the software you'll need to buy it in order to capture video without the watermark.

my computer recognises handycam when i connect via usb. but iam not able to connect via ieee1374 cable.in im ycom,devicemanager, there is no imaging device when i connect via iee1374 cable.do i need some drivers or in need to make some changes in cam settings.my comp is
amd athlon 64 bit, 700mb ram, dvd ram drive,my 1374 port is with via chipset.

I happen to have this setup... you need to set the audio source (the usb camera connection.) It is possible to hook up via the sound card, but that could be stressful for some.

I've learned my lesson here. Firewire and maybe WinDV is what I setup all the time now.
