Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

Calibrate Our Fridge is WAAAAAAY too cold. All the veggies are freezing so I manually adjusted the temp using the LED screen on the front. Turned it from 39 to 41 and it has not solved the problem. Does anyone have any ideas they can share?

My vegetables keep freezing in the fridge, how do i get the fridge at the right temp?

Remove the vegetable/ produce/ meat draws and shelving that support them. Look along the rear wall or the left inside wall for vents that are feeding or directing cold air to the draws. First try to shut or close these vents down. Or you can tape over them to restrict the flow . The normal refrig temp is between 37 to 40 deg.

Refrigerator 795 69292.901 built 8/09 refrigerator is very cold. temperature adjustment does not seem to work. All of the five circles to indicate temperature look alike. None is lit up or is marked,

Hello,

Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.

Hope this will help in solving the fault.....

Bottom freezer model... the refrigeration veggie/fruit bins are freezing up?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

What is your refrigerator cold setting? Try lowering the temp to to the medium setting.

Items in the lower part of the fridge will freeze if the setting is too high. (P.S. Cold air "sinks" so the lower part of the fridge will be colder. Cutting the "number" setting on the fridge does stop air flow though.

Why are my veggies freezing even thought the temp is set to 40?

Most fridges have crisper drawers that have a selection lever on either the front or side of the drawer that allows you to select eiher veggies or meat. Veggie setting is supposed to keep the crisper drawer warmer, while Meat setting makes it the coldest possible.

If you don't have the selector slide levers, I would suggest you use the highest possible crisper drawer available, as the lower in the frdge compartment you go, the colder the air will be. That should resolve the problem you're having, other than lowering the fridge temp setting slightly.

You might notice a cold air exchange vent next to your crisper, which supplies cold air from the freezer section into the fridge section, so that could be contributing to the colder temps in the crisper where you keep your veggies.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Fridge too cold

The temp sensor or the thermostat is bad.

It is reccomended that the sensor be replaced whenever a T-stat is replaced.

You can purchace both for less than 50 bucks with most models at your local appliance parts warehouse.

(The T-stat is the part that you turn up or down to adjust temp and the sensor is the wire coming off of it to a remote location in the fridge. With some models it is all one part, with others the sensor can be removed seperatly.)
