Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

55809 convergence Ok, so, I was having convergence problems with my 55809, and would concede to kick the side of it to bump the convergence back into alignment. Now the TV won't turn on period. The green power light comes on, but after a few seconds it goes out. I've been hitting the net hard on info, and it all seems to come down to a convergence problem with a couple of fuses and maybe some chips. Having said that, I looked up parts for repairing my TV and found a kit at that will fix the convergence. My question is, will this fix my TV not turning on, and is that site reputable? Also, when I hold input and menu at the same time, I get 2 blinks, a pause, then 2 blinks. Thanks.

SOURCE: I turn on the TV and after about a second it turns back off

22 error is the code for short protect which could be the two STK392-110 Convergence ICs as thats the number one component to short out . It could also be leaking coolant check the boards for any sign of a sticky residulr that would indicate that the CRTs are leaaking coolant on the boards.

2 blinks and 2 blinks is the error code for short protection---usually in this set the most common cause is a bad convergence chip that has shorted; it takes out one or two pico fuses in the set's power supply---the set detects no voltage to the convergence chips and shuts down.

Almost any good tech can do this repair in your home in about a hour or less--shops charge 300-400 for this kind of repair--look in your area and find someone who has done this brand before--I do lots of them here for 200-250 depending on model---This is the slow time of year for TV repair shops so look around--if someone says it "has to go to the shop" keep looking.

I have detailed start to finish instructions (verify the model number to me) for doing this repair; If you have the skill to do it yourself--you can buy the chip on Ebay A WS-55809 model uses a single STK-393-110 chip---about 14 dollars on Ebay plus shipping----let me know if you want the instructions and if you have questions reply to this post here.

I do this here for free so if it helps you take a moment and give me a vote here.

Thanks for using FixYa. Error code 2-2 means short protect which is either caused by bad convergence ICs and/or 2 Pico fuses (F9A05 and F9A04). You’ll need to open the back of the unit and replace the parts that have gone bad to resolve this issue.
Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

SOURCE: Dear SD Tech, My WS-55859 suddenly stopped turning

I have the address. 2,2 is short protection. 98% chance one of the two pico fuses pictured is blown.

Model indicated uses a single convergence chip; it and the fuses are on the middle board.

See attached photos of fuses (circled ones are suspects) and another of the chip.

A very helpful rating will result in instructions sent.

Error code 2-2 indicates "Short Protect Circuit" problem in tv.
Need to check pico fuses in power supply as one or two got blown due to bad convergence chips.
Below is an exploded view of tv chassis, power supply and convergence area has been marked to give you better idea to look for pico fuses.
Unplug tv from wall socket before to repair/check any thing inside tv.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.

I don't know of illustrated instructions but I can provide you with the service manual for your TV. It does have illustrations of disassembly and components as well as schematics. Your set very likely needs new convergence IC chips. This is a common problem with all projection TVs. The repair is not expensive ($60-75 in parts)  but does involve unsoldering and removing the old chips and soldering in new ones. Some times there are some fuses that need to be replaced as well. If you want the manual provide me with an email address.

Mitsubishi ws-55809 distorted picture

Sounds like you are having a convergence error.
What you could do is either replace the TV or have some wires/circuits/boards replaced.
Shop around for prices.
If you're lucky you'll find someone willing to do a free estimate, as replacing anything on these will set you back a few least.
Hopefully, in your case, the problem can be solved by tightening a screw or two.
