R5SL Will not pick up correct Satellite

Will not pick up correct satellite. Steps as follows, Turn on search, I hear the dish moving on the roof, read out shows failed to get signal. Checking the signal strength, will show a strong signal, but from the wrong satellite. I can set up a portable unit and lock on okay. Down loads guide and works well. Roof unit was working well and one day the tree growth just made it loose the signal. It has not locked on since.

SOURCE: My Tracvision C3 has suddenly

Hi

In order to rectify this you need a laptop and software to update your dish. Available from KVH. Here's the deal, It has a large footprint, 31 inches, bur very low 12 inches, for me this was no problem. I did not want to go with the m1 as it only works one Tv and the coverage was only 30 miles offshore (will not cover the Bahamas). The C3 will do HD as well, I have a direct TV account at the house and I simply took one receiver out of the bedroom and it works fine. So no extra charges. The dish is set up for Direct TV so it acquired it automatically. I shut it down when I am not using it to save power and it takes about 15 minutes to lock on and start working. it needs 110 power as the system is 15 volts so I ran it through the inverter. You will need to have the plug accessible for the receiver box as from time to time you will have to unplug to reset it. We were in 2 to 3 foot seas and never lost the signal. I have a 54 foot ocean going trawler, so we do not move around as much as some sailboats. I was looking at the trac it system and for $900 dollars and this was $1495 this was the logical choice as it is covered and protected and works underway.

One thing to remember is that if you are hooking all this up yourself you MUST use the proper wire and connectors. You can't use regular cable wire. Both systems require RG-6 (or RG-6Q) cable. You cannot use the thinner RG-59 wire. The system will either give you only partial signal or will eventually fry itself out and potentially cause a fire. If you look on most wires, there will be some numbers on the insulation. If not, look at the inside wire: RG-6 is about the thickness of an ink pen tip and will be fairly rigid whereas RG-59 is more like thicker fishing line and moves around easily.

Please accept the solution if it's helpful. Do get back to us for any further query.

How do i upload the operational directions for my 500 satellite computer on my computer

Sony Satellite Dish Antenna Operating Instructions

Operating a Sony satellite dish is a process that first requires correct dish placement to ensure strong signal reception. Additionally, the satellite receiver must be installed, and only then can you use it to put the dish in operating order via the use of its signal meter screen. Fortunately, you do not need to be a professional to complete these operations properly.

  1. Initial Sony Satellite Mounting
    • Look around for a suitable mounting area for your satellite dish. This mounting area should be free of any debris and also allow for a flat mounting area. It's best to utilize a hand-held level to measure and make sure that your Sony satellite dish lies flush with the mounting surface beneath it. Also, look to the skies above before settling on a mounting area, as obstructions such as trees, power lines and tall buildings can block signal reception for your Sony satellite dish. Once a spot is chosen, go ahead and crudely aim your Sony satellite dish to the southern sector of the sky above. This will save you some time later when you return for further adjustments

You should not have had to choose cable or air. When you have satellite it is considered the same thing as cable. Air is over the air rabbit ears antenna free programming. When you are connecting a satellite receiver you only have to turn to channel 3 or pick the correct av, component or hdmi input. Oh you must be connecting more than one television to the same satellite receiver. When that is the case tv #2 usually has to be set on a different channel and the satellite tv company tells you which channel. You still use the satellite remote to change channels and leave this television on one channel at all times. This television is good enough for its own hd satellite receiver connected with component cables or an hdmi cable though in order for you to see its full potential for displaying hd programs.

Sat finder detects signal on 61.5 Sat but receiver does not display or lock.

Hi, Mary with Dish Network Customer Service. The 61.5 Satellite carries mostly High Definition programming. If your Satellite Dish is an older model, it is not equipped to bring that Satellite in. It is the part on the Dish called the LNBF (the eyes) that will pick up the satellites. Your receiver is a Standard Definition, you should be reading the 119 & 100 Satellites. I hope this helped but if you have additional questions, please let me know.

The SAT feed coming into the house will connect to the SatelliteIn, and your TV connects to the CH4 CH3 on the back of the receiver. If you area aligning your dish yourself go to point dish screen ( menu 6-1-1) then highlight satellite and choose 129, use the signal meter and dish adjustments to locate 129 by getting a green siganl bar, (note: be sure you are standing behind your dish when aligning and not in front of it)

Can i get fm signal from a satellite dish we no longer use? This is still attached to the roof. I would like to use that coaxial cable from the dish and connect to my receiver.

No, you won't get significant signal in the FM spectrum from your satellite LNB coax. The dish is tuned to pick up signals of a very different frequency, and aimed to reject any signals not coming from a very specific direction -- up where the satellites are.

For FM, you need to receive signals from ground-based transmitters, in a different frequency range.

That said, you can totally use the coax to bring signals from your rooftop down to your stereo. To do this, you'd need to get up on the roof, disconnect the coax from your satellite dish and attach it to an FM antenna.

Best of luck!

Have Direct TV using a Sony Digital Satellite receiver model #SAT B2-2 /Sony Satellite dish purchased in 7/97. I get local channels thru Direct TV. Recently, local channels will show on the Direct TV guide...

Your dish is out of alignment. The local channel satellite doesn't have as strong of a signal, so a slight misalignment will cause problems.

It could also be an F-connector needs to be replaced at the dish or multiswitch (if you have one). Sometimes moisture builds up inside the connector and corrodes the copper stinger inside.

If you go into your satellite signal strength menu and find the local channel satellite, you're sure to see either a weak signal or an intermittent one.

One more thing, if a tree has grown in the line of sight between the dish and the satellite, this will cause signal problems too. In this case, you either have to trim the tree or move the dish.

Hope this helps!

P.S.
The customer service reps at DirecTV usually idiots reading from a script with no real field experience.

chances are that you have only lined up the dish to pick up one satellite. there are several satellites up there for dish and its easy to miss the ones that you need. try to line up the dish keeping this in mind. if that doesn't work, write back.
