Unless you live in a cold climate, ordinary 30W motor oil is fine. In cold climates, 10W-30 may make starting easier. You don't need expensive synthetic oil. Sounds like you want to take good care of your equipment. Tip: the air filter is a critical component in tillers since they work in dirt constantly. Check it regularly and change it when dirty.
