Question about Computers & Internet
I plugged in the new sky fibre optic broadband to my amilo notebook 3710 and it initally sat there trying to identify the router/broadband. After a while I decided to reboot the notebook to see if that solved the problem now I can't get past the windows startup screen as if it's waiting for something. It doesn't make a great deal of difference if I use the ethernet cable or on wireless.

Sounds like a disk failure. I use a product called Spinrite that has more times than not brought disk backonline. If it is a hardware (controller board) failure you are looking at getting a new disk. Spinrite is alittle pricey but well worth it if you own multiple PC. It helps with disk health as well.
If you see the disk in Bios I would give spinrite a chance to recover sector.

The hard drive has failed, or windows 7 is not compatable with the laptop. Try installing vista, if this works! there is a problem with windows 7, no change! have the hardware checked for possible replacement.
