I have a direct vent fireplace and the pilot doesnt stay on...

Unless I crank up the gas output. The pilot light will then stay on but my fireplace flame is blue instead of orange/yellow. Any chance I can fix this problem without calling a service repair man? Thanks for your help.

The flame is supposed to be blue,it means it's burning clean. If it's yellow-orange it isn't burning correct

Direct-vent fireplace lights fine but after about five minutes it clicks and completely shuts off

You may need a new thermo couple, it sends an electric signal to fire the burner and if defective the burner won't light or stay lighted. Easy, cheap fix but you need the right one for your fireplace. Measure the length of the old one and any furnace supplier should have one. Put in the new one so it is in direct contact with the pilot light flame, push the pilot light lighter and hold until the pilot light stays lit. May take a few tries and hold on the lighter till it catches.

Gas fireplace won't light

Your fireplace does have a pilot. It is either millivolt, where you manually light the pilot and use a remote or wall switch to light the logs
or is IPI where it still has a pilot light but the reote or wall switch lights the pilot first then the logs. The second version has a non-standing pilot. In either case, it sounds like a pilot assembly issue. When you "throw the switch", do you hear clicking inside the fireplace? If so and it does not light, you may have a pilot assembly issue. If there is no sound at all, then you may have a bigger issue with the control module. The only sure way to know which is the culprit is to have a certified technician come oput and examine your fireplace.

Majestic DVR 36 RN gas fireplace pilot flickers when ignited, eventually gets to full pilot. Ocasionaly burner shuts off, pilot remains on. Also, need owners manual for part numbers. Help.

Does your fireplace have a thermostat connected? If so, that may be why the pilot stays on and the burner goes off. Otherwise, it could be a bad thermopile. If that is the case, I recommend you just replace the entire pilot assembly. It is an older model and manuals can be hard ti find. If you still have trouble, I recommend you contact a local certified gas appliance technician.

36ECMII pilot light won't light

If you go to this link http://fmisupport.hcents.com/supportdocs/54024F.pdf it will take you straight to the owner's manual.
Now the gas log set is completely seperate from the fireplace. You would need to find out the model of the gas log set as any manufactuer of vented gas logs can go in this fireplace. Just for clarification the brand is actually Coleman but it was made by FMI. Now, the SPVBPD is a direct vent gas log set that was only designed to go into either the Amity, Oxford, or Victor hearth gas stoves. If you have the SPVBPD burner in a 36ECMII then you honestly need to remove that log set, as it was a burner only rated for direct vent fireplaces, and get a set of 18" LP vented logs. If you look at the link below you will see the owner's manual for the SDVBND. These logs need to be removed and you can go with any 18" vented log set. I suggest Peterson (http://www.rhpeterson.com/realfyre/vented-series/)
as they have the widest selection of logs and biggest array of dealers. Good luck.

Pilot light wont stay lit on gas logs

One, ensure that the flame is entirely one color blue, no light blue in the center, no orange or yellow. If you replaced the thermocouple yourself, ensure you connected it to the gas valve and/or ensure that the connection to the gas valve is tight. If it is a new thermocouple you may have a gas valve issue, this is uncommon and rare. However, the valve may not be receiving the signal from the thermocouple. If the color of the flame is incorrect, turn fireplace off, and clean out the pilot tube and then relight. If none of this works, call your local trained professional. Remember you are dealing with gas, being cheap can put you in danger.

Gas fireplace wont stay lit- it is a sealed unit so can taccess the pilot or gas holes in the logs. is it safe to remove glass panel?

Yes, removing the glass is safe, if you do it carefully, so as not to break it. Put it well out of your way, after removing it. In fact, removing it is the only way to access and service the Pilot Assembly and the Burners.

If the pilot won't stay lit, there are several things that can cause this on a Direct Vent Gas Fireplace:
  • The direct vent on the outside of the house is block or clogged.
  • Wind is blowing back through the direct vent, blowing out the pilot.
  • Low gas pressure
  • A dirty pilot.
  • The thermocouple and/or Thermopile (part of the pilot assembly) has failed.
If you can provide me with the make and model number of your gas fireplace, I may be able to furnish you with an Owners Manual, that will help you to continue to troubleshoot the problem.

Hope this helped you.

My heat n glow fireplace comes on fine with all burners running but shuts off about 5 seconds later. it seems the sensor that detects a flame thinks the fire has not started and shuts down the gas. Is...

You may have a few sensors, one may be a thermopile that energizes the pilot. It is a very thin but long bulb located in the pilot flame. Then you may have something called a thermopile which is also located in the pilot flame that energizes the main gas valve. It is a larger diameter bulb and will have metal wrapped wireg going to the gas valve. If the pilot stays on but the flame goes out under the logs, change your thermopile and look for a bad connection at the gas valve or switch. If both the main burner and the pilot goes out you may have a gas valve problem or a plugged vent pipe. If the flame just disappears it is most likely a gas valve. If the flame changes colors and lifts from the burner, that is a sign of a plugged vent. Good luck.
