My sound on my Gateway laptop sounds really bad. In the hardware section there are no yellow checks for any kinda hardware problems. I am using windows XP. Is it possible to have errors on my sound driver. Additionally, my system has slowed overall even after i put one gig of memory into the system. Where can I find new drivers for my sound card?

The software that operates the sound card is not part of the XP program, you must go to the Gateway support site and download the sound card software there, it is free. You look up the needed software by model number.

You have probably lost the driver for your sound card. You can download the correct driver at mpcdrivers.com under the downloads/notebook page. Also, check in your control panel/device manager and see if there is a yellow flag next to your sound card, or if it is even there at all. If it is yellow flagged, uninstall it, then reinstall the new driver
to check the same : 1. click on the start button 2. right click on properties 3. go to the tab that says hardware 4. click on device manager.
now, please post back with anything that has a yellow exclamation mark or a yellow question mark and with every thing under sound video and game controllers.
Here is the gateway link. Find you serial number download the sound driver and reinstall it. YOu wil then know for sure.
Slow . Remove unused software Clean and defrag the harddrive. Number one reason for slow computers are the hard drive read time.
If you have the CD Driver of your laptop, try to install your Sound Driver. Just look for the Setup.exe or if it doesnt have a setup.exe and you want to install it manually, go to Control Panel and open Add Hardware, if your computer detected that the sound needs driver showing a critical icon(yellow triangle with exclamation point). Just browse the CD so that the computer will know where to find the sound driver. If you dont have a CD of your sound driver. Go the Gateway site. This is the support download site of Gateway : http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/ddaStep.asp?Tab=All ----Just complete steps 1-5 and you can download your sound driver.
