Shadows and Reflections on my photos :(

Ok I have a Rebel which has been converted to IR only. Its been fine for about 12months but recently ive noticed many of my photos have got a shadow running across the top edge and I often get reflections that appear as if its a double exposure type effect.. Ive tried different lenses ie canon and sigma and the shadowing still appears along the top in landscape and on the left side in portrait.. im new to this place and i cant see any way of adding an example image so ill have to reply with it cheers

Nikon d-90, shadows in pictures

if you're using pop up flash, you'll get more shadows doing a portrait shot than a landscape shot just due to the position of the flash bulb and the angle the shadows are cast.

When I connect my camera to my laptop it wont download photos. It did download themu p to recently. When I connect my Rebel to my laptop, it won't download the photos.  Worked fine until recently.

Are you using the software to do the download? Or did you take the card out and use a card reader. If you used a card reader, sometimes you have to re-format the card in the camera via the menu before you use it again. Hope this helps.

Setting to shoot black and white

No, you can reduce the saturation but not go mono, (in the parameters settings)
You will need to adjust the colour balance and convert to mono in photoshop (or similar)
There are quite a few articles on the web regarding shooting in IR with the rebel, best results can be obtained with a modification to the camera http://ghonis2.ho8.com/rebelmod.html (reversable by using a IR cut filter for non IR shots) as it contains quite a strong IR filter which means although it is possibler without modification exposures will be quite long with IR filters and focusing difficult as the auto wont work and you will be able to see very little trough the viewfinder once the IR filter is on.
Here are a few articles, they may not relate to your exact model but all the eos cameras are somewhat similar.

Im sure there are many others.

Best of luck

Shadow across photo

Shadows, especially circular shadows, are pretty common with the pop-up flash. What you are seeing is actually the shadow cast by the end of the lens. This happens especially on wider angle shots.

The solution is to find a way to get the lens out of the way of the flash. You can get an external flash, like a 430ex or 580ex, which elevates the flash far above the lens. That is an expensive option so first you might try making a diffuser for your pop up flash, which softens the source of light and helps eliminate some shadows:
