Question about Gateway Computers & Internet
I was trying to restore a gateway computer and the screen that says Please wait while your windows files and settings are being restored. System restore is removing temporary files. It has been in the recovery mode for about 1/2 hour. What do I do

I have the same problem with my Gateway 7330gz. My laptop got infected with spywares and it was so annoyed that I have to think about recover the system. So I did it with Gateway Recovery software. I chose the recovery option (press F11 when boot up)from hard drive since my dvd drive was broken. It went well but when it boots up again and Windows XP says detecting and installing the drivers and such, it was frozen haft way through. I turned off power many times to reboot but it kept freezing at that point. I search Internet for help and seen this post. Wonderful! I press F2 to go to BIOS setup screen, use right arrow key to move to Advance menu option. There I use down arrow key to select SpeedStep, hit (-) key to disable it. Then F10 to save and exit, hit enter for OK button. The system boots again but this time it was no longer freezing, the setup process went through ok and continues...I am so happy and type this message so it might help others with the same issue. So you have an OEM Windows disc with the activation code? You should be able to install the OS from this. Try taking the battery out for an hour then installing XP. Also go into setup and set the CDROM as first boot device. If Windows installs go back and change first boot device to HDD. If it still won't install try a different CDROM drive. I have heard that some CDROM drives will not install XP. I don't know why but I've heard this rumor. There is also a jumper on the motherboard that resets the CMOS to default. I think it is J1, J2? Try switching that to the other position and turn on the unit. Shut down and move the jumper back. That is all I can think of right now.

, ask for solution. Don't forget the part about error number.Also if
you know the times and dates involved of said error. Go to your help and support section, in search window.Put in Windows Error Log.
Every error your pc makes is in there. Print Page or take a pencil and write down all instances of problem? Also take it to microsoft.com
with all the facts. they can tell you what to do to fix it ? They have spent a lot of money on your PC ?Til next time?

· Click "Start" on your Windows desktop. Navigate through "All Programs" and "Gateway." Click on "Gateway Recovery Management."
Click "Restore" when the Gateway Recovery Management window pops up, which will take the system back to the default factory specifications.
A box will pop up asking for confirmation, click "Yes" and then "Start." You may have to enter a password as well, but only if your particular Gateway had a password set.
Wait for the computer to restart. A "Restore from factory default" box will appear, requiring you to click "Next" twice in a row. Click "OK" in the box that appears next, and wait for the hard drive partition to be created.
The factory default installation will then be moved over to the hard drive.
Click "OK" in the box that appears and wait for a second Gateway restart.
Several minutes will pass as Windows "starts for the first time."
When restarting finally finishes, a "Set Up Windows" dialog box will appear. Click "Next," followed by checking the license agreement box, and then "Next" again.
Enter a user name and picture, if desired, and a computer name. Also, customize the background wallpaper for your desktop, optionally. Click "Next."
Click "Use Recommended Settings" on the Protect Windows-based dialog box that pops up.
Set your correct date and time settings in the next box. Select your location in the following screen. Click "Next," followed by "Start" to finish.
Wait while Windows checks for your individual Gateway computer specifications and adjusts accordingly.
This will likely take several minutes, so leaving your computer for a short time is fine.
Windows will then prepare your hardware and finish your Gateway restoration process, including the installation of Gateway Recovery Management.
Once completed, your Gateway is good to go and ready at factory settings.
