It'll turn on, the backlight will briefly flash, then it won't do anything. The menu won't come up, no music will play. It is as if it won't initialize? All I can see is the sansa in the disply

Its damaged by grounded device.

Try downloading or re-install its firmware if possible.
If not - then disposing it will be the last good option.

My Sandish Sanza ( 2gb) backlight screen is black

    Reset All
If your device freezes up press the Menu button and hold for 15 seconds.
This is like a power down of the device. Once you perform the reset, the adjustments you made during last operation
    will be gone.....
IF that doesn't work try to the update software and install then lock your sansa hold in the rec key on the left at the same time push the menu/power button this will take you to recovery mode then connect to the computer Star the update software if it doesn't start automatic goto /start /all programs /Sandisk/sansa updater/ sansa updater and start it up manually... follow instructions on the updater and the sansa hope this works.... Please rate

Can't see screen or change modes on sansa clip 2gb mp3

You posted your question under "Sansa Clip," so this is a Sansa Clip manual:

This model goes to "sleep" quickly by default - pressing any button will wake it up. The button that looks like a house (if the paint didn't get rubbed off already) allows you to go one level higher in the menu tree. Have fun with it.

Go to your menu screen by briefly pressing the power on button. Then hold the power button while in the menu. This will re-start the player and it should fix your problem. If this doesn't work, contact technichal support. =)
