Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

PS3 Power Surge.

The other day we had a thunder storm and lightning struck right outside my house. This in turn caused a surge. The surge ruined my cable box, router and PS3. The cable box and router were replaced by my service provider luckily. My PS3 will actually turn on. However, it will not turn off. It will also not connect to the internet either through wireless or a wired connection. All was connected to a surge protector, even though it it close to 8 years old. Not sure if that matters or not. I am also not in warranty. I want to know if it could be repaired by someone. I am not sending it to Sony if there is a $150 charge. I sent a claim to my renters insurance since they do cover surges, I will find out if they will pay for it tomorrow. If not though, I need to know my options.

Get a surge protector for your most loved systems, that way the worst case scenario is you will need a cord replacement. Unplugging it when it's not in use may also cool it down.

Unplugging it would be my alternative. I took my chances with sending my console for repairs, through the mail. From my own experience, I learned it's better if I break my own system than to have the company completely lose it (it happened to me, they don't mind turning a blind eye). In the end, they might find useless means to void the warranty, at no cost to them.

SOURCE: Surge protector shuts off while playing PS3

swap to another surge protector. if it still does it, it is a power surge at the outlet, if it does not, the Surge Proctector has worn out. have someone with the appropriate knowlege have a look at the outlet as well. older outlets especially tend to wear to the point where the plug literally falls out of the wall.

Replace the TV as it has been damaged by a power surge and the faults will be recurring.
A home surge protector will do nothing to break the power of lightning.

Did you have a power surge after a loss of power? If so your TV is ruined from the surge. In the future use a surge protector if don't already.

How do i fix my landline phone?

hmm im not sure if there's an issue with the base for your wireless phones but it maybe that the phones arent able to determine if the base is active (EG the right base for the phones) some may need to be paired up to the base or the base maybe malfunctioning due to the lightning storm (Phone lines are prone to being struck at times which could send a surge to some types of phone bases and ruin them)

Find out what the F03 error is for and then check out the appropriate area. If there was a strike of surge the most likely place to look for damage is the area where the electricity first enters into the device.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no reset on the phone system, and it's a near certainty that a power surge during the storm "fried" the sensitive circuitry in your phone. The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago and I ended up replacing my phone system. A corded phone in the house at the same time lost its ringer during our storm. To this day it still works fine, but will not ring. While you cannot save your present equipment, it's possible to protect your replacement by installing a phone line surge protector (available at just about any store that sells phones or computers) and a whole house surge protector that you install at the main outside breaker box (you'll need to search the web for that one. Look for a SYCOM surge protector).

Lightning Storm/Affinity Washer

During a lightning storm, a lightning strike could have induced a high voltage surge in your incoming power lines. Left unprotected from these power surges, the weakest link ( normally low voltage electronic controls) are the most susceptable. Just because you had power available at the wall receptacle after a storm doesn't mean that your washer control system wasn't exposed to one of these surges and got damaged. On the contrary, it is extremely likely that the washer took a 'hit' and was damaged.Other devices plugged into the same receptacle may have survived that hit because electricity travels the path of least resistance.. In this case.. that path may have been thru your washer.. My point being is that your washer could have sustained a power surge and was damaged so don't rule that out. Of course, that surge could have taken an internal fuse or other component out too..

Someone please help

Good Day;

Two things normally happens after a L storm:1.) One must unplug TV for 5 minutes, then plug back in. 2.) Main glass fuse out, will be near a/c cord. 3.( Power regulator IC may be out. Try these first.

Good Luck!
