Unlock Cell Phone's
If you are one of the nearly 200 million American cell phone users, you probably signed a contract to get a great deal on a swanky new smart phone. While this contract might initially suite your needs if say you stay in the same town or city for example, but if you travel frequently, particularly overseas, your bill will sky-rocket due to exorbitantly high fees, particularly for data roaming. Once you've determined your phone number and account are tied to your SIM card, not your actual phone, you can then perform the following test to see if your phone is locked:
• Borrow an activated SIM card from a friend using a different wireless service provider.
• Install the borrowed SIM card in your phone and turn it on.
• Try calling your friend's phone number from a LAN or other mobile phone.
• If it rings on your phone, it is unlocked.
• If your mobile with the borrowed SIM does not have service (no bars shown on the phone) or issues an error message, you're cell phone is carrier or network locked and you'll need to unlock it.
Once you have determined your cell is locked, there are two basic techniques to perform a mobile unlock. You may have to try both to accomplish a mobile unlock.
Some instances, entering a code into it will unlock a mobile phone. The code is usually unique to a specific phone and is based on the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. Entering *#06# into a phone's dialler pad will display the 15-digit IMEI number.
Unlocking iPhones is slightly different and requires iTunes to "talk" to Apple's database in order to perform an unlock remotely via iTunes. The locked/unlocked status of an iPhone is identified on Apple's database and in order to perform an unlock, this status has to be changed.
