Simplicity mower model 1694624

The mower shuts down electric circuits as soon as you turn the key on, no instruments nothing. When I pull the plug on the voltage regulator, I think that's what it is mounted on the side on the engine. The plug has 2 white wires with more coming out of the regulator. With plug together the solenoid clicks and the circuits go dead. When it runs with plug pulled apart something smells hot. I can't tell if it's a belt smell or an electrical smell. What do these 2 white wires go to? Any help would be appreciated.Jon

Describe your troubleshooting guide for simplicity yard tractor Problem After releasing the brake the motor stalls.

Could be one of two problems.
First if the motor is pulled down to a stall when the brake is released I would check the tranny drive. Check and make sure belt is on all pulleys and not wedged between pulley and frame or case, make sure all pulleys turn freely and if unit has sat for a long time make sure belt is not rusted into pulleys. Finding the belt wedged or a frozen pulley should resolve the problem.
Second, if the motor shuts off as if the key was turned off then it may be an electrical problem. I am not sure what year simplicity we are discussing. Earlier models did not have all the safety features. I would start by checking safety switches and by starting at the rider presence switch ( on the seat).

I have a 7 year-old craftsman mower with a 22 HP Briggs engine that has the same issue. After about an hour, the mower acts as if it is starving for fuel and then stalls. Then after about 5 minutes of sitting, it will run for a little while longer.
If your engine is similar to mine, then its carb has a fuel shut off solenoid which shuts off fuel to the Main Jet when Voltage is removed to prevent backfiring when the key is shut off.
Unfortunately, this solenoid can also cause the carb to starve for fuel when not working properly. In my case, when I cleaned the solenoid and the solenoid's connections, the tractor had no problem after that.

Hope that helps,

Craftsman riding mower shuts off after approx 20 mins of use.

ran into this problem twice this season, about drove me crazy - finally traced the problem to the anti-backfire solenoid [the little cylinder at the bottom of the carburetor that holds the float bowl on] - after running fine for 20 minutes or so [it varied], the coil would release the plunger and shut off the gas flow. as soon as you turned off the key and turned it back on, it would start back up - replace the solenoid and problem vanished
