Question about Dyson DC14i Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Dyson DC14 Bar brush and belt replacement.

After removing the old brush and belt. I am ready to put it all back together. But i cant remember exactly where this metal clip goes?? it is approx. 1/2" wide x 3/4" I do remember that it was wedged in somewhere against the brush belt maybe where its wrapped around the brush control shaft. or in the brush control knob housing??? I don't know for sure. Can somebody help me out?? Do you have any part or assembly prints possibly???? Thanks!!

The owners manual doesn't show anything past clearing out any brush bar obstructions. I am replacing the brush bar and belt, which requires more intensive disassembly. Dyson requires that it be sent back for servicing, that was going to cost approx. $100.00 when said a done. Terrible design, belt and brush bar are just normal wear & tear replacement parts & should not be that difficult to replace?? Other that that I have no complaints. Any other suggestions?????

Dyson dc14 brush bar is not turning at all. Everything else seems to be fine. I just replaced the brush bar but still no movement. What else could it be?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC14 Animal. If the brushbar doesn't rotate, please check you have the brush control set to 'Carpets', not 'Hard floors'. The brushbar will not rotate when the machine is standing upright, so please recline it into the vacuuming position before testing it.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, please give our Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US), so we can provide further assistance.
Best wishes,

The belt on my Dyson DC14 will not turn. How much will you charge to change the belt.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing a problem with your Dyson. If your DC14 doesn't have a Brush Control option, you should be able to replace the belt yourself - you can find out how to do this here:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=635&product=DC14-SY-STD

If your DC14 has a Brush Control, try checking for and removing anything blocking the brush bar. You can find out how to do this here:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=668&product=DC14-ANIMAL

If you require further assistance, please get in touch with us free, on 08002980298, or 1866MYDYSON (US), so we can run through some checks over the phone.

Kind regards,

Dyson DC14 brushes do not turn. Removed all hair and debris.

DC14s have two drivebelts that turn the brush bar - one connects the output of the motor to the clutch, the other connects the clutch to the brush bar.
You can check the latter simply by removing the sole plate and looking. Unfortunately the other belt is hidden under a plastic cover, so you cant see if it is okay or not without some dismantling. This cover is not easy to remove and requires a Torx driver to under the securing screws.
If, after removing the cover, the other belt is okay, then you have a faulty clutch. New clutches are available on eBay reasonably cheaply, but again good tools and DIY skills are required.
Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some excellent info on dismantling and repairing a DC07 (the DC14 is very similar to the DC07), but unless you have access to such tools, and feel confident to tackle it, it's probably time to call Dyson or a Vacuum repairer

We have a dyson dc14 and the beater bar stopped turning, we cleaned the bar off and checked the belt and it's not broken, I know I called Dyson a year or two ago and they told me how to reset the beater...

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when the machine is locked upright. When you release the head and pull the handle back this dial should mopve forward to the on position. Once here, the brush bar should turn.

If this doesnt resolve the problem, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

When I tilt back handel and turn dial to carpet It makes a loud grinding noise

On a Dyson this engages the brush bar. Two possible faults: Debris (hair etc) caught in brush bar - cut out with knife. Or - damaged drive belt - pieces of belt striking casing. Last, but unlikely cause, debris in bearings of brush bar - replace brush bar.

Dyson vacuum cleaner-brush bar is frozen

Hi If your Dyson has a brush protection design - i.e. roller bar on the top of the hood on the left hand side then the DYson can't be repaired by you- serviceman or professional care can replace it.
However if the Dyson doesn't have the roller bar on top of the hood, flip the machine over so that the beater brush is facing upwards, locate three/four screw heads that can be undone with a coin and remove the sole plate assembly. This should give you a clean view of the brush bar, drive belt and dirt channel. Ensure everything is clean espcially if the brush bar has lots of hair or threads tightly corded around. Then locate the drive belt and check to see if it has snapped. Grasp the beater bar gently upwards and the belt and brush can then be removed. Fit a new belt on carefully and check the tension as it will be tight.

Replace belt and dyson vacuam cleaner, model dc14 I ordered a new belt and brush replacement assembly and we can't seem to understand how to get it apart to change it

If the DC14 has a brush protected aspect i.e. a switch on the front that puts the drive belt off, the drive belt would have to be replaced by a professional repairer as this can't be done at home.
If the model doesn't have the brush control at the front, flip the Dyson over so that the beater bar is in the air and locate three/four screws that can be taken out with a coin or blunt knife. A turn is all that is required on those notches and the sole plate should come off once these notches have been undone. Then check the belt - if it has broken lift out the beater bar in the middle with your hand and replace the sections necessary. Be careful to check that the end caps are pushed in properly otherwise the beater bar will not sit correctly.
