Bith of gold fish

Goldfish are egg layers. Unless you have Comets, (commonly referred to as "feeder fish", or "carnival goldfish"), or Koi, they are both in the Carp family and are live-bearing. Meaning once the female gives birth, you must seperate the "fry" a.k.a. baby fish from all other fish in the tank or they'll become a snack. Pet stores sell breeder boxes to float in your tank that the babies stay in until they're big enough that they won't get eaten, there's also special food for babies once they're born or hatched from eggs.

I think my fish might be vegetarian. Is there such a thing as a vegetarian fish?

Yes, some fish types are fully vegetarian such as; Pacus, Silver Dollars, Farowellas, and Mollies. Other fish have vegetarian food as an important part of their diets such as Goldfish and Guppies. It's really important that you check with your pet shop what your type of fish should be eating.

How much should I feed my fish?

A good rule of feeding is to feed no more than the fish will consume completely in less than five minutes. You can always give them another small feeding if necessary. Don't over feed your fish it's very harmful for the fish and in worst cases can even cause death.

How often should I feed my goldfish?

Once a day is enough ifyou have less than 4 goldfish. If youhave more than 4 or they are particularly large I would feed them twice. Each feeding should be either one pellet or apinch of flakes.

Does an aquarium filled with goldfish need a filter?

Generally speaking, goldfish can survive in a fish bowl orsmall tank without a filter. However, ifyou have multiple goldfish in one tank, they would probably live longer andhealthier lives with a filter. Filtersare beneficial because they clean the water and keep it balanced. The fresher the water is, the healthier yourfish.b>

My bettas keep dying. I am not sure if it is the tank itself. The first fish lasted about two weeks. On my school desk with little natural light. Replaced him with Astro lasted from June until about 2...

Bettas,or Siamese Fighting fish as some like to call them, are one of those hit and miss type of fish. Some will live a very long time, while others have a rather short life span.
If they see thier reflection,or if there are two or more in a tank, they will kill themselves/each other.
Did you happen to notice if your's was bouncing off the walls? If so it was fighting itself.
When you purchase one check to see if it has a white cotton looking mass near it's gills. This is a disease and needs to be treated...so don't buy it. If it's top fins appear to be torn it's probably an older one,so don't buy it.
I'm not sure how many of those I went through with my youngest son...we went for the goldfish.
I'm not sure what kind of water/chemicals you are using in your tank,so I can't help you with that part of the question.
The best way to clean them is with baking soda and vinegar and then rinse well.
I suggest going to a site such as about.com and doing a little research about the water and temperatures that they like.
It's easier to get the goldfish.lol.
Good luck.

It depends on your climate. I would not recomend the same fish for Minnesota that I would for Nevada.
