1) carburetor gaskets/diaphragms may need to be replaced
2) ignition coil may be breaking down when hot
3) check compression when cold, then after it stops, when hot
4) could have a vacuum/pressure leak
*I would investigate carb first

Is this a 4cycle blower or 2 cycle ? if its a 2 cycle the baffle plugs up from low grade 2 cycle oils, so he prob. pulled it out because your eng would not rev up cause of it being plugged, he should be able to find you one, personally I would run with it the way it is...the better your eng breathes...the better it runs!
