SOURCE: Downloading skype onto my acer aspire one netbook

For aspire one you need to download the Fedora 7 package from the Skype Website.

Afterwards, just do what your aspire asks you to do. When everything is installed, just press alt+F2, type in "skype", en press "Run". Skype will start up. That's it

I own an 2005 acer aspire one kav60 that a friend put Windows 7 on... I have tried doing a factory restore by pressing alt + f10 upon start up but get only the edit boot options for windows 7 with the only...

When you reformat to another OS, with a Disk or USB, your loose evrything in the HDD, and that includes the hidden partition on which your original OS is saved. It don't matter how many time you try to restore or reformat you will never be able to accomplish it since your friend deleted the hidden partition when he installed Windows 7. If the Aspire One had Windows XP, unfortunately, there is no support for it. When there was support you could get a copy of a Windows XP CD to restore it with the hidden partition and everything.

I have 2 HDD's in my PC - both with Win XP Prop

Boot.ini is correct, but looks default is booting from Disk2 and partition 1 which is your G:\ 500 GB.

Try Copying boot.ini from c:\boot.ini to g:\boot.ini It might help

In your example I see missing "\" after partition(1), may be typing mistake, but in real time can generate error.

You boot.ini looks exactly same in both drive c:\ & G:\

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="GUY DRIVE XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Note: boot.ini will be hidden and readonly file. You need to unhide the file and remote the read only option and then only you will be able to save the boot.ini file

Hope this helps

When I boot up my computer before windows xp loads it asks which operating system I want to run,and it gives me 2 choices WINDOWS XP HOME, or, WINDOWS XP HOME. You use the up and down arrows to select...

simply you can remove the second option in the boot.ini.

go to the or right click the my computer at the desktop and the properties. and then click"advance TAb" in the start up and recovery, click "setting" and then "edit"

you will see this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Timeout=30 change to: 0

and then delete this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
after deleting you must save it.

and then restart the system

Please leave a comment b4 your rate, Thanks!
