How do I remove and replace a CPU cooling fan on my Dell Dimension 2400

Make sure u can open the casing well to expose the interior parts without causing any damage. Then by close look at the processor area , that is where the heat sink is located. Normally the dell dimension 2400 has a green channel shaped structure that acts as a passage for the air that enters in and out for cooling the heat sink. It has a locking parts that slides into the casing back by slight pressing to the back of the casing just behind the processor area, be so observant to notice the locking parts. then the fan is just fixed behind that green " channel like" and its fixed on the rear side of the casing, 25275582-o0cuhlgwrl13okm3u3q5444d-5-0.jpg

The Cooling fan of my HP/Compaq Presario CQ60 sounds like a jet fighter! 2 questions 1) Replacement CPU cooling fan? 2) Can anybody give me pointers on how to get in to the laptop? I have tried blowing...

Presario CQ60 Repair Manual
From the above link from HP Official Support you can download the service/repair manual for instructions and photos for dis-assembly. Refer to "Fan/heat sink assembly" on page 4-41.
At page 4-7 onwards, you would find the instructions about opening the laptop.
Follow the instructions carefully and remove the Fan/ Heat Sink and Clean it using a tooth Brush.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

My old heat sink and fan have screw in attatchments and the new on has the plastic pop in and 1/4 turns. Help?

Your old heat sink and fan probably works just as as good or better than that stock Intel fan and heat sink. If your computer case does not allow access to the rear of the motherboard you are going to have to remove the motherboard to pull the back plate that was used to attach your old heat sink and fan. To install the Intel fan turn the pins until the screwdriver slot is perpendicular to the fan shroud (the tip of the arrow is furthest out), then push in any 2 opposite sides at the same time into the motherboard. You will here them click in. Repeat for the other 2 pins.

Dell Inspiron Fan running constantly and very loud. Can I replace with Quieter Fan? If so, what fan model and Who would you suggest have replace it? Or are there other options? This is driving me...

Stock fans tend to be very loud. If this is a laptop your probably SOL on finding a compatible replacement. If this is a desktop then just buy the same dimensions or just by the fan/heat sink combo's of the same size.
From looking up the fan in question I'd say this is a laptop and there isn't much you can do about it

If the fan is spinning quite fast then the overheating problem is most likely dust clogging the fan and heat-sink assembly. Blasting air into the fan and heat-sink can only make it worst as you are forcing the dust further into the heat-sink fins.
Remove the panels covering the vent and fan/heat-sink, loosen the dust and vacuum to remove this dust off the fan and heat-sink. Check the fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
After re-assembling and boot up, if you still have heating problems, addition cooling can be employed by purchasing a laptop fan assisted cooling pad. Place the laptop on top of this pad and the fans on the pad will direct additional cooling air to the laptop's vents.

I need to replace the cooling fan and heatsink on my Gateway ML6720. I'm having trouble finding the part. If I can find it, can you tell me how to replace it?

The best thing you can do is replace the fan itself with a like kind of shape and size. I usually do this by going to a computer store with the old fan and matching it up with the ones they have in stock, or measure the size in milimeters and buy one on line. The fan is held on by 4 screws and it is much easier than trying to remove the heat-sink and take the chance of damaging the motherboard. You can just screw the new fan to the old heat-sink and you are done, plug it in and insure the fan is blowing in the right direction and you are done. Good Luck, RAC

Laptop switched off while i was working on it

After the notebook shuts down do not turn it back on for 15 minutes and then test it again. Will the notebook work longer if you let it cool down for a while? Isn’t it hot if you touch the bottom? Can you hear the fan running?
Most likely you experience a laptop overheating problem and it would be fixed by cleaning the cooling module – the heat sink and the fan. The notebook processor produces a lot of heat when the notebook is turned on. The cooling module helps to keep the CPU cool when the laptop is working. The cooling module includes two parts: the heat sink and the cooling fan. The heat sink is attached to the CPU and helps to conduct the heat from the processor to the radiator. The cooling fan blows on the radiator and helps to disperse the heat produced by the CPU. The laptop will overheat if the heat sink radiator is clogged with lint and dust or if the cooling fan stopped spinning.
If your laptop shuts down after some time without any reason and warning, check if the cooling fan spins. Usually it makes some noise and you can hear it. If the fan works fine, then check if the heatsink is clogged. In some cases you can clean the heat sink with compressed air, just blow inside the fan openings on the laptop bottom. If the heatsink is completely clogged, then it is necessary to remove the heatsink for cleaning.

Hope This Helps!!!  Please Don't Forget to Rate my Response!!! Thanks!!!  uva
