Question about Polaris Pb4 - 60 Booster Pump

1 Answer

Polaris Booster Pump Brand New keeps shutting off

We bought a brand new booster pump pb4-60 last summer and it kept shutting off so we had all of our electral wiring checked and the company replaced the pump on the understanding that it was faulty. We now have the new pump hooked up and the polaris will run for about 5 minutes then shut off any ideas on what this could be?

SOURCE: polaris booster pump runs for minute but quits. Tries to restart

The motors are usually dual voltage and factory connected for 230V. Are you sure it is properly wired and set for the correct incoming line voltage?

SOURCE: Just bought a new polaris booster pump (PB4-60)

Have you checked for voltage at the pump motor? Did you wire it correctly? Is the motor 110V or 220V. Did you match the motor to your existing voltage?

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

It is likely due to cavitation in the booster pump impeller. The easiest way to correct the issue is to slowly close a throttling valve on the booster discharge. If there is not one present install a ball or gate valve near the pump discharge line and slowly close it with everything running until the noise stops. Generally speaking closing the valve about a quarter of the way seems to be when most pumps run quietly but the setting is unique to each installation.

I have a panasonic split system in the kids bedroom its an ECONAVI indoor unit is CS-E9NKR we have not used this A/C since last summer, now the compressor will not start, only the indoor unit operates

Typically on a mini split the outdoor unit is powered and the indoor unit gets its power from the outdoor unit. If the unit is a year old you might have lost your charge. Look at the connections at the indoor unit and outdoor unit. You will typically see oil or a dirty area on your copper were there is a leak.

Goes into overload and shuts down

Not very much information in your problem troy but you might be drawing more amps than your producing. I had bought a nice little Craftsman electric tire pump but my Yamaha kept dying. After reading the labels, my 2400IS puts out 15 amps and my tire pump needed 18 amps, my friend now has a nice tire pump for his home use. I've seen post that RVers have to add the "booster" kit to start their air conditioners, extra power is needed to start them after that the 2400 can run them. Just a thought, try reading the metal tag on what your trying to run and see how many amps it needs. Anything over 15 will shut you down and some will need that extra "boost" to get them started. I seem to think I read somewhere that it is about $75.00 for the Yamaha booster kit.

I assume you are talking about the flexible hose that is connected with a threaded collar and clamp the hose to the fittings. This can be caused by vibration, warn parts, high pressure or collar not tightened sufficiently. If the parts were installed with the previous pump then they may be worn. If you tried replacing the the fittings then you may want to change the parts to PVC fittings and piping instead. About half of the booster pumps I have seen were connected using PVC piping. I hope this helps.

Sounds like it is popping a safety switch or the other issue is that it is getting wet internally from the moisture in the air and is causing the pump to fail, It should technically still be under warranty, I would call the company that replaced the pump or that you bought the pump from and let them know what is going on.
