Flashing "F" on front of drive slot

There is a flashing "F" on the front of one of the drive slots. Yes, normally, I would think that this would signify a failed drive. But, I just replaced this drive. Before I replaced the drive there was an audible alarm and our adaptec storage software indicating that it was a failed drive. This time there is no audible alarm and the adaptec storage software gives no indication that the drive has failed. What does the flashing "F" on the front of the drive slot mean? Thanks!

Re: Flashing "F" on front of drive slot

Yup, it's the right model number. I got a hold of a support person at storcase. They said the flashing "F" usually indicates a bad fan. They also said that the flashing "F" could indicate a bad drive but since there are no audible alarms, my Adaptec Storage Manager did not detec a bad drive, and I just replaced the drive it is unlikely it is another bad drive. I just have to pull the drive out to give them the model # of the drive carrier and they said they would know for sure. Thanks!

Re: Flashing "F" on front of drive slot

The front panel display contains seven (7) lights which provide the following information: ? Power-On - Steady green glow indicates that power is being supplied to the Data Silo chassis. ? Temperature Warning - Flashing red indicates that internal operating temperature has reached 43? C (109° F). ? Blower 1 or 2 Failure - Flashing red indicates a blower has failed. ? Power Supply 2 Failure - Flashing red indicates second power supply has failed. ? Power Supply 1 Failure - Flashing red indicates first power supply has failed. ? Mute - When switch is depressed, a steady yellow glow indicates the audible warning sounds have been disabled. Depress switch again to enable sounds. ? Reset - Depress switch to reset chassis and clear any error conditions. The specs on the DS550 do not say anything about an F at all? Did you put the correct model number?

I hook up the sata bridge adaptor and my computer is not reconizing the the hard drive is even there i can hook it up to ide and it works fine just wont work with the bridge

The bridge has a jumper I believe next to where the powerplug is. This jumper must be pulled out and put on the A-B NOT the A-C if youare going to use the IDE ribbon cable. Another trick is do not use the IDEcable (extra) that you may have with or below or above your other harddrivesince bios will always keep trying to go to your SATA drive even when youchange your primary drive with working operating system to slave and changeboot order....will just show on screen something like no boot disc. The easiestway without messing with the bios and drivers and all is this....move jumper toA-C then use one of the IDE cables that you have (you should have 2) of youCD-ROM. If you are using 2 CD-ROM's remove one and plug this IDE cable intoyour SATA bridge. The computer will now find new hardware. Then right clickthat new found drive when you click "My Computer" from"Start" and "Format" it, just to make sure everything is off thedrive even if new it will not hurt. Not sure if you want your SATA to be yourprimary drive but if you do,you now can use Acronis Ghost software or other tomirror your primary drive onto your new SATA. Once done take out or dissconnectyour primary drive and install your SATA into that slot or above or below yourprimary drive if you have available room in your tower then hook that IDE cableto your SATA and hook power. BAM.. your computer will now use the SATA to bootup and all is fine. Remember SATA does not have slave/master jumpers like IDEdrives. Now if anything happens to that SATA you still have you disconnectedprimary drive to fall back on. If your concerned about wanting 2 drives you maybe able to take your original primary drive and change that jumper from Masterto Slave.Since bios will default to your new SATA drive now and use that hasyour master and boot up from that drive. If you do not want to use yourSATA as your primary without installing an operating system or usingghost/mirror software then to make life easier just use the IDE cable from oneof the CD-ROM's or get an extension IDE cable that will reach since your SATAdrive is smaller and most likely will not neatly fit into the CD-ROM slots. Youcan use the extra slot if you have one above or below your primary drive yourusing now, then plug your CD-ROM IDE cable (with extension if needed to reach)into SATA and then you can now use the SATA to send files and anything else youwant to store in that drive. Hope this helps.

How to use a 512 MB flash drive

Normally you would just have to plug the flash drive into a USB port on either your laptop or desktop computer. If you are operating on a relatively new computer it should automatically detect and install any driver that is needed. Once that's complete, you can "get to" or view the items on the flash drive by clicking on the start menu (assuming you are using a Windows computer), then my computer and selecting the drive letter of the flash drive.

Vantec Nexstar 3 HD not being recognized on comp

Hi, I had this same problem - blue light flashing and the drive not being recognised.

The problem was with the power cord, not the drive.

I solved the problem by unplugging the connection on the power cord between the outlet end and the power brick section, and re-plugging them after flipping one of the ends over.

The drive was now getting power correctly and spun up and was recognised as usual.

Blue power light is flashing red and the hard drive won't mount

Hi Vieve, The manual says nothing about flashing red and blue nor could I find anything of any real substance. Basically this thing is a box containing an IDE hard drive and some electronics that interfaces the drive with firewire, power distribution and a few other odds and ends. I suspect the board that contains the electronics may be damaged, however, its entirely possible that this may be some undocumented error that can be reset. I would try calling the vendors tech support, it?s at least worth a shot. If getting your data off is the concern it might be worth your time to buy another enclosure, install your drive and plug it into your Mac. There is a good chance your data is recoverable. Sorry I couldn?t get you a more definitive answer.
