SOURCE: Sears Craftsman Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model and a LiftMaster Chamberlain Professional Garage Door

Hello,

I had the same frustrating dilemma with my Craftsman LiftMaster garage door and Keypad, Model 139.53754-01 (dated 10/06; and has the # 315 MHz).

To resolve “the dilemma”, grab your keypad, climb up on a ladder to access the garage door opener’s motor unit. On the right side of the motor unit, remove the white plastic casing by pressing buttons on each side and pulling down. This will expose the programming area, and for our purposes, the “Learn” button.

1. On the motor unit, press and release the “Learn” button. The Learn indicator light will glow steadily for 30 seconds.

2. Within 30 seconds, enter a four digit personal identification number (PIN) of your choice on the keypad. Then press and hold the ENTER button.

3. Release the ENTER button when the motor unit lights blink. The code has been “learned”/stored/activated.

Good Luck, and I Hope this Helps!
Gail
For possible future reference:

How to change an existing, known PIN
(Changing an existing PIN can be done with the wireless remote keypad, and does not require access of the motor unit.)

From the keypad:

1. Enter the four digits of the present PIN, then press and hold the # button. The opener light will blink twice. Release the # button.

2. Enter your new 4-digit PIN and press Enter. The motor unit lights will blink once when the PIN has been “learned”/stored/activated. Test by entering the new PIN, and pressing Enter.

SOURCE: Replace liftmaster 1245R drive/worm gear

I have a 1265 and took the cover off (unplug first).
There are screws securing the cover: 2 on each side at top, 2 at either end bottom.
Then I disconnected the chain.
There are 3 hex head screws securing the drive gear assembly (of course they thread from the inside out which makes taking them out a bit time consuming). Take care not to damage the circuit board or other electronic connections.
Then at the bottom of the shaft is the "limit switch assembly" that is clipped into the metal housing. Squeeze the 2 on the outside and it should swing free.
Then at the very end of the shaft there is another plastic gear. It is secured by a 3 prong plastic clip. Pull the outside clips away from the shaft while pushing the center piece back through the shaft. The gear should come off and you can now remove the gear and sprocket assembly up through the assembly.
call 800 528 2817 and order the "Gear and Sprocket Assembly".
I am waiting for the part and assume we reverse the order above to reinstall.

To program the keypad, first unplug the garage door opener from the electrical outlet. Next remove the nameplate from the console that the keypad plugs into and locate the program/operate switch. Flip the switch to program. Next enter your desired four-digit PIN number into the keypad. Slide the switch back to operate and plug the garage door opener back in. The keypad should be programmed.

SOURCE: my garage door opener (liftmaster 1265) buzzes

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. Most likely stripped.

Testimonial: "Don0930 - Yes, gear is stripped. Will be purchasing replacement gear instead of new unit. Thx!"

If your keypad doesn't have the enter button it is an earlier model and will not work with what you have now. You will need to call your Liftmaster dealer to get the latest model.

The trolley is most likely jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. Remove the bolt and then run the door until it is closed. Now locate the 'up limit' control on the side of the motor unit. Turn this 2 complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Be sure to replace the bolt.

The LED flashing 5 times is the code for "RPM sensor or motor overload". Usually if it is the RPM sensor - which is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor - it will run a few inches and then reverse. I doubt very much it is the motor. I would pull the logic board and check for loose or missing traces on the printed circuit. Especially if you have had any electrical storms or power surges.

If your door is in the open position and the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit you need to remove the bolt and then run the opener until the door closes. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit control' on the side of the motor unit and turn the control a couple complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover.

On the rear of the motor unit just to the left of all those white wires you will find the smart/learn button. Press and hold the button on your remote and then press and immediately release the smart/learn button. Do this for each of your remotes.
