Question about GE Profile PDS22MHR Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

Fridge - not cooling, door switch/light working but nothing else

Not cooling, temperature control panel not lit but inside light/door switch working. No noise at all -- no compressor, no fan, no nothing. When you plug it it in the compressor turns on for about 1/2 second and then stops. Technician replaced both main board and temperature board with no difference. He said it's probably a wiring problem and labor to possibly locate would be cost prohibitive, so he said buy a new fridge. Could it be the start device? Would the fan not be working too if the compressor isn't starting? P L E A S E H E L P me if you can!!

SOURCE: Fridge too cold

There is a damper motor that is behind the vent where you feel the cold air coming out in the fridge section.  That damper should open and close after making temp. adjustments.  See if you can look in the vent and see if it is wide open.  Set your freezer on the coldest setting and check this vent again an hour or so later.  If it is still wide open then that damper motor is bad.  Let me know if you find something different or have any questions.

SOURCE: PDS22SBSALSS Clicking Noise/ Temperature Control Panel

It is possible to change out that relay...if your unit has one. This is usually a small plastic box on top of the compressor...but not a round tubular thing...which is the start capacitor. Just make sure you are careful...take out the plug. If you're messing with the has terminals which do contain hazardous voltage. Discharge with a screwdriver across the terminals. Generally, the relay is the thing which gives the symptoms you're facing. Change both and you've probably got it...they're cheap. Not all models have both.

I had the same problem back in March. First the water and ice dispensers stopped working, then the clicking started and the compressor wouldn't turn on. I replaced the circuit board and everything started working again, until today. This is a very common problem with the circuit board on these refrigerators. Do a search for "GE circuit board" and you'll see what I mean. GE issued a service bulletin to its technicians that this service should be provided free of charge, and anyone who already paid to have the circuit board replaced will be reimbursed. I wish I would've known about it 6 months ago. I will be calling GE Consumer Affairs on Monday to get this resolved.

SOURCE: GE PCG23NHMF side by side fridge freezer - stopped cooling

Although this machine is supposed to be frost-free (i.e. automatic defrost), there was a build up of frost. We manually defrosted the machine, then restarted it - the noise has stopped and the freezer and fridge are now working. However, this may be a temporary solution.

You said that the control board on rear of your refrigerator was replaced and there is still nothing happening? You do need to check the power behind the refrigerator to make sure there is power, yes. When did the control board get replaced and was it new?. Sea Breeze.

Fridge temperature has stopped working but freezer is still workijg but fridge light still asap!!!

OK! The light on the fridge is activated by a switch on mounted somewhere the door hits to turn it off when the door is closed. How do you know the light is on if the door is closed. Check the switch and manually press it in. If the light doesn't go out the switch is bad and will have to be replaced.
The second issue of the Freezer working but the fridge part not working. The cooling coils are located behind the rear panel of the freezer. If the blower is blowing, you may have a chronic ice build up on the coils which limits air flow. The fridge is supplied its cold are through the vents at the back of the freezer along the bottom and cold air is blown into the fridge through these "Vents". Make sure nothing is obstructing them. Hope this helps.

Control panel on front stops working, only freezer lights are lit, freezer and fridge stop cooling.

when half of the display goes out, it is giving you an error code telling you what is wrong with the fridge.Unplugging it simply resets the computer until the error comes back typically within a few hours.

without knowing what is lit up, it is difficult to help you so I would recommend putting the error code "which bars are lit up" in a comment so we can diagnose further

It can be the thermostat controlling the refrigerator telling the when to cool and not as to keep at constant temperature. It is located inside the refrigeration part of the fridge behind the panel. It is a small round object normally pricing around R250.

A light switch failure can leave the light on even with the door closed, raising the temp. to over 40 degrees. Firstly, make sure doors are not sagging creating a switch activation with the door closed. If that checks good, replace the door switch.

My unit works great on AC (cools to 30degree), but

Your fridge has two manual settings to adjust it's internal temperature. Obviously, it most likely has a standard control (1-5 or 1-9 depending on the fridge) that you can adjust on the control panel. Some fridges are preset (no control panel adjustment) and must be adjusted on the inside of the unit. If open your fridge, look at your cooling fins. You will notice a metal slider on a wire attached to one of the fins. Moving this sensor up or down along this fin will set the internal temperature of the fridge. You will have to play with it a bit to get it set properly (with a thermometer), but you should be able to get it to the proper temperature. I hope this solves your problem. Thanks... John Charles
