Question about GE Profile PDS22MHR Bottom Freezer Refrigerator
Not cooling, temperature control panel not lit but inside light/door switch working. No noise at all -- no compressor, no fan, no nothing. When you plug it it in the compressor turns on for about 1/2 second and then stops. Technician replaced both main board and temperature board with no difference. He said it's probably a wiring problem and labor to possibly locate would be cost prohibitive, so he said buy a new fridge. Could it be the start device? Would the fan not be working too if the compressor isn't starting? P L E A S E H E L P me if you can!!

SOURCE: Fridge too cold
There is a damper motor that is behind the vent where you feel the cold air coming out in the fridge section. That damper should open and close after making temp. adjustments. See if you can look in the vent and see if it is wide open. Set your freezer on the coldest setting and check this vent again an hour or so later. If it is still wide open then that damper motor is bad. Let me know if you find something different or have any questions.

It is possible to change out that relay...if your unit has one. This is usually a small plastic box on top of the compressor...but not a round tubular thing...which is the start capacitor. Just make sure you are careful...take out the plug. If you're messing with the capacitor...it has terminals which do contain hazardous voltage. Discharge with a screwdriver across the terminals. Generally, the relay is the thing which gives the symptoms you're facing. Change both and you've probably got it...they're cheap. Not all models have both.

I had the same problem back in March. First the water and ice dispensers stopped working, then the clicking started and the compressor wouldn't turn on. I replaced the circuit board and everything started working again, until today. This is a very common problem with the circuit board on these refrigerators. Do a search for "GE circuit board" and you'll see what I mean. GE issued a service bulletin to its technicians that this service should be provided free of charge, and anyone who already paid to have the circuit board replaced will be reimbursed. I wish I would've known about it 6 months ago. I will be calling GE Consumer Affairs on Monday to get this resolved.

Although this machine is supposed to be frost-free (i.e. automatic defrost), there was a build up of frost. We manually defrosted the machine, then restarted it - the noise has stopped and the freezer and fridge are now working. However, this may be a temporary solution.

You said that the control board on rear of your refrigerator was replaced and there is still nothing happening? You do need to check the power behind the refrigerator to make sure there is power, yes. When did the control board get replaced and was it new?. Sea Breeze.
