Question about Zebra Eltron LP 2543 Thermal Label Printer

1 Answer

Driver I am not able to find drivers that say this specific model number. What driver set should I be using? Also, I just received this printer today (I bought off ebay in supposed working condition) and although I do not have the drivers set up yet on my pc, when I plug in the power and try to turn it on, I hear no sounds of power and what I assume to be the paper feed button on the top does not work. Is it safe to say this is not in working condition?

Since my original post, I found out from the seller which printer drivers that I need to get and informed me that I would also need to get the RS-232 DB9 drivers for the RS232 Serial 9 Pin RS-232 DB9 Cable Adapter to work properly as well.

Seemed easy enough but I am still stuck on the first step and not sure what to do. I did find the RS-232 DB9 drivers and installed them, even thought the website that I got them from said that if using Windows 7 or 8 and connected to the internet I would not need to download them as the wizard would do it for me. My problem is, I don't get the wizard. Every time I plug it in, instead of getting that add new hardware wizard, I get a message that says: "USB Device not Recognized, The last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Recommendation- Try reconnecting the device if windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly." The seller assures me that everything worked fine up until he sold to me so I can't imagine the adapter doesn't work now. At this point, I just don't know what to do and fear I've gotten in over my head. Can anyone help?

Windows 7 First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps Click Start button, type devmgmt.msc in the Search bar and press Enter. Click Continue if necessary In Device Manager, double click to expand Universal Serial Bus controllers, right click on the Host Controller, click Uninstall and click OK. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under Universal Serial Bus controllers. Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

Thanks SO much for all your help Brian, you made it very easy follow. I have tried all of the above but every time I restart and plug it back in I keep getting the same message. Not sure if I should buy a new cable adapter or what at this point. The guy I got it from says everything was working fine before sending it to me but I suppose that don't mean a thing when it's not working now. lol. I also wondered if I should be doing all this in any particular order. I figured out which set of drivers to use for the label printer and tried to go ahead and install those but every time I tried that it would get about 3/4 of the way done and just freeze on me. I'm feeling a lil doomed here. lol

Rather doing a driver hunt which can take hours

Windows XP/Vista/7/8

it might take some time being a freeware driver solution
Note: it will find all of your outdated drivers

This will automatically search for and find the correct driver you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point.

Click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated.

this problem will address on label and ribbon issue. you must establish your printer set-up first, meaning see to it that the label and ribbon was correctly loaded, if still problem occur try using manual calibration you can see how to do at the manuals you have..

SOURCE: Zebra LP2844 not working at all after wrong power supply

what I learned.
the printers being sold as LP 2844 all over the place is actually an LP 2543. It was made for UPS, specifically, and they are being sold in large lots to refurbishers. It looks almost identical to the LP 2844.
LP2844:  DC 20V 2.5A tip positive; all of them have USB ports!!
LP2543: AC 16V 4A; have only parallel and serial. Cover has a lighter shade to it. Most either have the label scratched off or a fake one put on.

Sounds like you put your printer into line mode. Line mode prints code so you can see what is sent to the printer to look for possible mistakes in the code.

To switch from line mode back to page mode.

  1. Turn printer off.
  2. Press and hold the feed button down. And switch printer on.
  3. Release the feed button when the LED flashes red.
  4. When the LED flashes green, press down the feed button.
  5. When the LED flashes amber release the feed button.
  6. Try printing now that the printer is back in page mode which is used for print your labels; line mode prints the labels code.
  7. Do this fast or else it wont work if you are slow.

What printers are compatible with the ASUS G1 laptop? I bought an HP printer/scanner which wouldn't install. I asked Geek squad and they told me there were a large number of incompatible printers - but...

While I have never heard of a printer being incompatible with a specific laptop model, I have heard of geek squad giving bad advice. This situation would be the latter. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 there are some older model printers that may not work up front, but right clicking on the software and selecting properties>>compatibility>>and selecting Windows XP from the dropdown list might help. Also going to the manufacturer website (HP, etc) to find updated drivers for the specific model printer and for your specific operating system may help you out as well. More often than not with Windows 7 simply running windows update will find the drivers you need, as long as you have everything selected to show up in updates and not just the important ones.

Good Luck,

These phone services are meant to prevent unwanted calls, but they will also stop faxes. Contact your telephone company for their recommended solution for receiving faxes on the same line with these services. If you wish to receive faxes automatically, verify that automatic answering is enabled on models that have an Auto Answer button, or that the Rings to Answer setting is set to a number equal to or larger than one for models that do not have an Auto Answer button. On models with an Answer Mode setting, it should be set to Fax, FaxTel, or AnswerMachine depending on your setup. If you have a HP PSC 2200 or an Officejet 6100 that interrupts calls or will not receive faxes, download and install the HP Firmware update for these products.
