Question about Garden

1 Answer

I Have my Granfathers 1863 mid 90s Cub Cadet Lawn Tractor. It starts right up and runs great, however when colling down and shutting it off it spits and sputters 10 to 20 seconds. Then if u try to restart in a short time it will wind and finally will start but again it will spit and sputter slowly starting to smooth out and run great again. Can you help w any advice for me? Thank you Robert A.

SOURCE: Cub cadet RZT 42 shuts down after about 30 min of mowing.

Check your magneto. I have had them cease to function whenever they would get hot. When cooled down, they would work.

The problem is in the carb. First try using some bottled fuel system cleaner at a heavier dose than for a car, but be aware that too much may damage the carb. Then run the fuel out and fill with fresh and try again. When you engage blades and it sputters try to throttle down until it runs smooth and then slowly bring engine back up to mowing speed. You should be able bring it up and mow. Run out the fuel tank. If unable to do this trick and get the fuel system cleaner through you will need to have the carb. taken apart and cleaned thoroughly.

Might be Coil Breaking down under heat. Not sure best way to diagnose other the cross your fingers and buy a new coil. Sounds like you did everything you could do Fuel -wise.
