Check batteries -will not work without batteries. Clean battery cap with pen eraser.
Otherwise - do LEDs light up in viewfinder? If multiple LEDs light up at once, the the aperture resister board on the front is dirty or the shutter/asa board on the top needs to be cleaned. If LEDs light up and then go out when you push the release button, but the camera doesn't release then the capacitor on the bottom is probably bad.
Finally, did someone stick a screwdriver in the motor coupler on the bottom and force it to turn? Congrats, they have ruined the shutter gears! I used to see this all the time.
push in the rewind button on the bottom of the camera. turn the rewind knob to the right until all the film is rewound into the film canister.
pull up on the rewind knob to open the back ( film ) door, remove canister. put new film into camera push rewind knob down and pull enough film to attach to the take up spool.
push the rewind button on the bottom of the camera, then turn the rewind knob to the right to rewind any film that may be in the camera. Lift the rewind knob up to open the back door. remove the film canister if there.
on the new film canister pull enough film to reach the take up spool. attach the leader to the spool and close the back door, advance the film to counter number 1. enjoy.
first clean the battery cap and contacts with a pencil eraser including cap threads.
the aperture mirror is located on front of the prism. remove the two screws on the front prism cover, remove the cover. you will see the holders for 2 tiny mirrors one of the mirrors fell off and must be found before it gets jambed in the mechanism.if it's not around the prism anywhere take off the bottom cover and check there. gently shake and tap the camera . the mirror has glue on the base side and may be stuck. when found re-glue to the holder.
you will need a jewelers + type screwdriver. just turn screws to the left, remove the screws and bottom plate. push re-wind button in first. check the small white gear at the bottom of take up spool. if its broken it may be hard to replace as no new parts are available for this model.
Is the re-wind button stuck in? If so it can be released by moving the take-up sprocket manually. If that did not work there is a broken take up gear. This was a common problem with the X700, a white plastic gear was used at the bottom of the take up spool mechanism that just was not strong enough especially when trying to get just one more shot from the roll of film. No new parts are available.
