You said these particles stick to the clothes, do they come off and then leave a stain? It may be grease or oil coming from a leaking drum bearing seal.
If it is, This is a major repair and not one for DIY.

I think that during all the rocking the lid switch has come off or broken. If you lift the lid look in the recess where the lid goes on top. There will be a small slot, if you press down on this slot with a screwdriver or something, it should make a clicking noise. Also check the lid and there should be a short prong that presses down this switch when the lid is shut. If the prong is missing or there is no clicking noise when pressed. The little clip that holds the switch has come off. This is a safety switch that protects people from the spin cycle when the lid is opened. If you are capable, remove the top panel on the washer, locate the bracket and switch. This is a small rectangular part with a button on the middle, with 1 wire attached to each end. Unplug the power, remove these 2 wires from the switch and connect them together. make sure everything is safe and plug the cord back in, turn the timer control to spin. If it spins, that it. Also, if it has an anti out of balance switch that is not working, you need to locate that too, while you have this apart. Check the literature that came with the washer to be sure it has this feature. Locate it on the machine and just replace it. Testing it may be hard to confirm. You will need a meter and may be some type of mercury switch inside. Did leveling the feet help the shaking?

You sad,My clothes get dingier ever week from using my washer especially the towels. They are now Grey and not white
1.Here are some ideas and INFO!
2.How old is your MAH5500B washer and did you buy it new?
3.Do you use HE High Efficient detergent?
4.Do you ONLY put the proper amount of detergent directed to be used by the manufacturer?
5.Using to much detergent will degrade the seal and eventually destroy the bearings.
Which will cause oil to leak out on your clothes and sometimes make gray stains on them !
6.Is there tiny gray oily pieces in the wash and on clothes?
7.Look closely at your rubber seal around the opening. Is this worn or deteriorating away slowly due to bleach or detergent? Is it a gray or black rubber?
Please have patients and bear with me, with all these questions I propose to you here!
"I am searching with your eyes for things I have seen in the past about this model"
Here are some reasons this may also happen!
How large of a load can I wash in my Maytag Neptune washer?
* The tub can be loaded completely full with dry, unfolded clothes. However, do not pack the tub tightly. If the load is heavily
soiled it is very important not to overload the washer.
My whites are not as white as I’d like. What can I do?
* Wash white loads using the cotton/sturdy fabric selection. Select the hot wash/cold rinse temperature setting and put 3/4
cup of chlorine bleach in the bleach dispenser. The bleach will be dispensed in the final minutes of the wash providing for
optimal whitening. Maytag recommends a hot water wash temperature of 120-140° F (49°- 60° C).
*The lint filter in side the machine may be clogging with dirty lint!
*Which means you needed service!
I hope one of these solutions is the reason!
Let me know how you do!
Please remember to leave a rating for me!

Actually the machine is working like it is designed. When the correct soap is used, these machines clean clothes better than the old style. Try using a major brand of soap like Tide, Bold, or Cheer. Make sure it has the HE design on the bottle. This means that it is made just for the new High Efficiency machines. Also make sure you don't use to much. Read the directions. If this is done correctly, I'm sure you will find that it does clean great. I was like you when I first saw one of these new machines. "These is no way you can clean dirty and I mean dirty clothes without enough water to cover them. Well since, I have became a believer. They have put a lot of thought into designing these things. They had to of, for them to clean as good as they do.

do you use affresh to clean your front loader? deposits of soap and other such things can be stuck around the inside tub of your washer. try this porduct out it works great on all front loaders use hot water with the affresh pellet with no clothes and run the machine through a cycle this also helps with any stagnant water smells also have you cleaned out your pump lately. * note remeber to put the pellet on the inside of the machine not in the soap dispenser
