Question about GE Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

GE profile microwave keeps alarming "reminder"

Every day the reminder is going off like an alarm clock and "REMINDER" is flashing across the screen. Nothing works to turn it off aside from unplugging it. I've searched online and can only find advice to hit the reminder button to set/turn off the reminder, only there is no reminder button. My model is PVM1870DM3BB. So frustrating!

Test this steps and fix it. God bless you

  1. Controller is confusedA power surge or random non-reproducible action of the universe may have resulted in the controller's program ending up in an infinite loop. Pull the plug for a minute or two to reset it.
  2. Defective Interlock switchesThis can result in the controller thinking the door is open and ignoring you.
  3. CleaningCleaning solutions (spray cleaner) may have gotten inside and shorted out the touchpad or controller. If this happens remove the touchpad, let it air dry for a few days, and then attach it back on the microwave.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your response. The problem started about a week ago when the microwave stopped working entirely, no clock display, no light inside, no heating. The microwave is only 3 years old and is used lightly. Just as strangely as it stopped working, it started working again without us fixing anything. Then a couple days later this problem began. To clarify - the microwave still functions seemingly normally, however this "reminder" alarm keeps sounding at random times (sometimes middle of the night, sometimes around 9am). It alarms as frequent loud beeps with the word "reminder" scrolling across the screen. I cannot figure out how to stop it without performing a hard reset (unplugging it for several minutes), but even when I do that as soon as I set the clock again, the letters "rem" show under the clock indicating that a reminder is set - though no one set one! Any further thoughts about my problem? Thanks so much for your time. "

Built in GE Microwave/electric oven combo. How to increase the volume on the alarm timer on the microwave? It is now suddenly almost inaudible.

I would check the settings. A glitch may have reset them.

Otherwise, I would unplug the oven for a minute, plug it back in, then reset the clock and try it again.

If you still need help, contact me via microwavecontrol.com with your full model number and detailed symptoms.

GE Spacesave microwave won't work. Display says REM. What does that mean?

"REM" is "reminder". That's covered in your owner's manual.

Here's a sample:

"The Reminder feature can
be used like an alarm clock
and can be used at any
time, even when the oven
is operating. The
Reminder time can be set
up to 24 hours later.
1 Press REMINDER.
2 Enter the time you want
the oven to remind you.
(Be sure the microwave
clock shows the correct
time of day.)
3 Select AM or PM.
4 Press REMINDER. When
Reminder signal occurs,
press REMINDER to turn
it off. The Reminder
time may be displayed by
pressing REMINDER.
NOTE: The REM indicator
will remain lit to show that
the Reminder is set. To
clear the Reminder before
it occurs, press
REMINDER, then 0. The
REM indicator will no
longer be lit."

Our 2006 Samsung Microwave has suddenly ceased to heat anything. The clock works and the turn table goes around, but that's it. We had a couple of power outages just before this happened. Could it be...

Hi,

Press the "Off/Clear' button to cancel anything on the display, and reset the microwave. This is a soft reset and will simply get you out of any program you have started. Press it when the cooking complete reminder appears on the display.
Perform a hard reset. Pull the plug out of the wall power supply, and wait a moment. Plug the GE microwave back into the wall power supply to reset any anomalies with the microwave's memory. You will need to reset the time of day if you perform a hard reset.
Reset the time of day. Press the "Clock" button, and turn the dial to set the hours. Press the dial to enter. Follow the same procedure for the minutes and a.m. or p.m. Press the "Start" button to start the clock.

I have accidentally locked my microwave oven (profile performance convection oven). I was cleaning the front. Can you tell me what to do?

Got you covered. Here you go:

Microwave - Explanation of the Child Lock Out Feature
Many microwave control panels can be locked to prevent accidental use or access by children.
There are two different ways to lock the control panel:
1. Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for 3 seconds. The display will show "LOCK" and then revert to the time of day.
A small "L" will appear in the corner of the display as a reminder that the control panel is locked. If anyone tries to use the microwave, the display will show "LOCK".
2. On some models, press and hold the 5 and 7 pads simultaneously for 3 seconds.
To unlock the control: Repeat the procedure which was used to lock the control. (Press and hold the CLEAR/OFF pad for about 3 seconds or hold the 5 and 7 pad simultaneously for 3 seconds.)

GE microwave (jvm1740dm1bb) - Control panel inop

That model number is not quite right. I'm going to assume it's JVM1740DMBB01.

(If that's not right, please check the tag inside the oven & reply back)

The membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control panel frame which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame.

The part number you need is WB07X11040 and you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order this part here for $107.00 (compared to $164.75 from GE!)

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Intermittent reminder beeper won't shut off

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes. Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

Charcoal Filter Replacement

Be sure the oven is disconnected from the wall first. Then open the door. Remove the two screws from the top of the grille. Next, slide the grille to the left to remove it. Before you slide the charcoal filter out, be sure to note how it rests at an angle on 2 side support tabs and in front of the right rear tab. After it's replaced, you can press OPTIONS until you come to the Charcoal Filter Reminder. Then you can press 0 to turn the reminder off, press 1 to set the reminder, or press 3 to turn the reminder on.
