If it has a video output option (like a VGA port you typically see on desktop computers) then yes, you can simply use an external monitor.

However I advise against removing the broken screen unless you plan on replacing it as it will leave certain cables/components exposed.

1. you need to remove the power cover (if you see the power button, that what i mean).
2. after you remove that cover, you will see 2 screw that hold the keyboard. Remove both screws.
3. Remove keyboard and replace it with new keyboard.

I don't have the diagram but i can give you direction.
1. remove the power cover first (where power button is), it might have 3 screw that hold, if there is 3 screw on the power cover, remove it first.
2. after your removed the power cover, you can see the screw that hold keyboard. remove that screw and you can remove the keyboard.

SOURCE: Keyboard broken on my Acer Aspire 5520

For the Acer Aspire 5520 I'm working on, (Acer Aspire 5520-5156, mode nol: ICW50)

Remove the three black screws under the battery, not the silver screws.

VERY carefuly pry off the power button cover. It will make 'snapping' sounds and if you where gentle nothing will be broken.

The keyboard has no screws holding it and can be slid toward the screen and very gently pryed out, taking care not to tear the ribbon cable, as mentioned before.

When the keyboard is out the cable can be released by gently pulling the cable lock on the header toward the cable, the thin (black in this case, it's usualy a different color than the white connector) plastic part of the connector I just use my fingernails, one index finger on each end slowly pulling till it releases.
Pull the cable out using the pull tab. You can just pull the flat cable out with the pull tab without releasing the calbe lock but you stil need to release the cable lock to properly put in the new cable, then push the cable lock back tight to the connector.

SOURCE: Fn key is broken

Go to http://www.laptopkey.com/ and order missing key. They have a video guide how to remove and reattach keys. The easiest way i think is to order a new keyboard from ebay for as little as 25$ like i did.

Computor turns on but no screen appears

Disconnect the mains, remove the battery, press the power button for a few times, leave the laptop for a few minutes. Put the battery back in, reconnect the mains, turn on the laptop.

Check that the cover sensor is not obstructed. (either a pin/extrusion on the lid part that presses down a button when the lid is closed or a pin on the keyboard part which is released when the lid is open. Other sensor types require disassembling a laptop to diagnose).
Look carefully if you see a very dark image on the screen (backlight is broken).
Try to connect an external monitor (if the picture appears on the external monitor, then either the cable within the laptop or the screen of the laptop is broken, disassembly required). If no picture appears on the external monitor, or the image is scrambled, the videochip of the laptop is broken. Disassembly required.

Due to the age of laptop, repairing at the workshop might be not economically viable. If you have important information on the hard drive, you can copy it by connecting your hard drive with a ide/sata to usb cable to another computer and saving the data.

Hello, my enter key doesn't work in my acer aspire 1410.

They ENTER key is damage but the whole keyboard of your laptop is replaceable. For temporary, use on screen keyboard. Just go to start menu>accessories>and choose on screen keyboard if you are using Windows XP OS.

You will have to install them or find a person who is handy with disassembling laptops.
1. You will have to remove the cover of the LCD screen and then you will see the hinge support assembly.

ACER cracked screen..external monitor???

Hi there.
The keyboard toggle you are using is the correct one.
Sometimes you have to hit Fn + F5 a couple of times to stay on there is no real set time. Make sure Fn + F6 is on so the laptop screen stays on.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Acer aspire 3050 black

refer to ur user manual to see which key for brightness e.g.fn+f 9
(reduce brightness)if havnt got one can easily download one of net.try to swich screen to monitor.connect external moniter and press fn+f 5.(refer to manual maybe different key)
press down and release screen lid button see if any response.if all fail need to disassemble.
remove screw in about middle of pc underneath.this ia retainer screw for key board.remove screws dirrectly behind screen to remove plate with buttons.then can get access to keyboard and lift away (do not disconnect it just rest it on screen or front of pc )check cables from mother board to screen.check inverter.
all these are worth checking but initially sounds like inverter faulty.
