How to disable drivelock password

The Compaq drivelock feature is designed to protect the data on a laptop's hard drive by assigning a password.

This password protects the drive in the event the laptop is lost or stolen, but can be removed when necessary.

Knowing how to remove or change the drivelock feature can make your Compaq more useful and more secure.

Power on your laptop and enter the drivelock password you established when you turned the drive protection feature on.

You will need this password to access the drive and turn off the drivelock feature.

Click the "Disabled" option in the drivelock menu.

This will turn off the drivelock feature on the Compaq laptop.

Do not enter anything in the password blocks.

Log on to the laptop, click the "Start" button and choose "Shut down." Choose "Restart" from the menu to power cycle your laptop and verify the drivelock setting is off.

If the drivelock setting is off you will not be prompted for a password when the laptop starts up.

hope this helps

Laptop Tips: Overheating Problems

Overheating Frequent overheating will damage the motherboard!..becomes unstable, no display, hang-up and worst black-out or no power at all.
Symptoms: The laptop starts beeping, freezes, restarts by itself or shuts down after it has been on for some time, typically 10-15 minutes or more. If you start it again, it does the same thing after just a few minutes.
Troubleshooting: Most laptops overheat because the fan intake is blocked either from placing the laptop on a soft surface or by dust. In either case you will need to let it cool down before turning it back on (may take up to 30 min). If you suspect that dust is blocking the fan/heat-sink, get a compressed air can and try to clean it now (that will cool down the laptop too).
Sometimes overheating is caused by a fan malfunction. If the fan is completely stuck, the laptop will show an error message immediately after starting. However in rare cases the fan’s fins are just loose or broken and won’t move enough air to cool the laptop.
In either case you should try cleaning the fan(s) and heat-sink(s) with compressed air. That is best done outside, as usually there is a surprising amount of dust accumulated in there. If the laptop continues to overheat, you will need to bring it to a repair shop.
Also if you have dropped the laptop, the screws holding the heat-sink may have broken off. In this case the laptop will overheat in just a couple of minutes as the CPU has lost contact with the heat-sink and is not cooled at all.

Another one is moist inside the motherboard or corrosion.

If this troubles may arise and can't solve it yourself, bring it to certified laptop repair shop.

Lost access to internet says something about adapter cannot be found

Laptop card has two major problems.
1)basic connectivity to the laptop motherboard. Check the two clips and make sure they are secure.
On certain Compaq/HP laptop, the fix is to add a foam pad on the top of the metal portion of the board.
2)heat is also a problem on poorly design motherboard.
Make sure the CPU,AGP video cooling ports are not blocked.
The build up of heat will indirectly affect the Wifi circuit.

If you had setup the laptop with a Power on Password and a hard disk password, then your laptop would have been protected/locked and no one could gain access to your laptop and hard disk without these passwords.
Sorry there is no way anyone can track or block your laptop once it leaves your hands.
I suggest on your next laptop you set the Power on Password and hard disk password or at least encrypt sensitive data on your hard drive.

After installing win 7 upgrade to my vista hp laptop it changed my password or blocked me out of my laptop. I did not backup files before because I thought the hp upgrade manager disc that I installed...

Well u already lost everything because u told it not to back up ur files. So u lose nothing by starting all over again. Nobody here knows your password and there is no magical password hacker out there. Reload ur Win7 cd again and format the drive with a fresh copy. This will wipe out any and all on the hard drive including passwords.

I have a dell Inspiron 1705, it runs fine, boots fast, runs normally however after about 10 to 15 minutes of use the laptop freezes. The only way to reboot it is to hold down the power button to shut it...

Looks like an overheating problem.

First, make sure that you put your laptop on some hard surface. If you put in on your bed for example, the soft surface will block the air vent on the bottom of the laptop, resulting in poor cooling of the inner components.

Do you hear the fan working, and air blown out of the exit vent on the side (or rear) of the laptop?

If not, then perhaps the fan is broken and needs replacement.

If the fan can be easily heard, working at full speed all the time, there is a problem with blocking the air inlet, or the internal radiator/heatsink got covered with dust and lint, and needs cleaning - try compressed air blown from the opposite direction (from the air outlet) to blow away the dust - of course with the computer switched off, otherwise you'll be "fighting" the fan trying to blow in opposite direction. If this doesn't help, the laptop needs servicing, as it probably lost the heat-conductive layer between the processor and heatsink.
