Question about Buffalo Technology 320GB MINISTATION TURBO USB 2.0 5400 RPM PORTABLE HDD Hard Drive
My buffalo ministation suddenly stopped working. The light will no longer flash and it won't be recognised on any computer, even when using a different connecting cord. Strange thing is that the station is making the usual whirring noises, as if it is operating fine. There is no unusual clicks, just the usual sound. Please help.
Im having the same problem sound like your cable is not working or you need a new case because the pins are broken.

if you dropped your hard-drive and it stopped functioning - high chances that the drive has a physical crash. Best suggestion will be to contact a professional data recovery team if the data on the drive is really important (Coz, they charge a bomb for the recovery) Suggestion would be to talk to drivesavers.com

SOURCE: total space problem
The windows use some space for space addresing but not that much
It shoves 149 GB because manufacterers use the terms gigabyte in metric (base ten) way.
IT means 160 GB = 160 * 1000 MB = 160 000 * 1000 KB= 160 000 000 * 1000 Bytes
when you convert that in Gigabyte that computer use (1GB = 1024MB, 1MB = 1024 KB, 1 KB = 1024 Bytes) you get:
160 000 000 000 Bytes = 160 000 000 000 /1024 KB = 156250000 / 1024 MB = 152587,890625 / 1024 GB = 149,011 GB

The external storage device has several major components:
* USB cable
* external power-supply
* disk-drive inside the enclosure
* USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.
Try a different USB cable.
Try a different USB port on your computer.
Try a USB port on a different computer.
Take a multi-meter, and measure the output voltage/amperage of the power-supply,
and compare with the specifications on the label of the power-supply.
Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and attach it as a "slave" drive in a desktop computer, to see if bypassing the USB-to-disk-drive adapter bypasses the problem.
Look at the label on the disk-drive, for manufacturer, product-number, serial-number, and manufacture date. Access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status" to see if the warranty still is valid. If so, the drive can be replaced, at minimal cost to you.
Buy a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.
Search online for a professional "data recovery service". For a significant fee, they can repair your disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your files to a new disk-drive.

SOURCE: my buffalo ministation 3.0 external hard drive wont be recognised by my comuter. to be honest i dropped it, but when i plug it into computer green light starts flashing, after a while fashing stops gr
My ministation was doing the same, beeping and flashing green light after a light drop on the floor. Soo... I took my ministation usb drive out of the plastic enclosure and smacked it on the table a few times. Plugged it in and it spun back up!! Now my computer recognizes it and everythings working smooth! I assume something with the drive became jammed and the couple smacks loosened the drive head.. Anyway, if all else fails... beat it!
