Look at the power cord end that goes into the unit, there are multiple cords on the market that will fit, you just have to get the right end..

Have you rebooted, tapping the F8 every two seconds as it powers up?
Try this quickie: Power off, remove power cord, remove battery, hold down power on button for 30 seconds, replace power cord (not battery), power on. Any effect?

Maybe the battery is dead. Remove the power cord and see if you can work on the laptop on battery power for any length of time. if it goes off quickly.

A good power cord will not charge a dead battery. Batteries only have a useful life, then they have to be replaced.

Currently, your motherboard only support Intel Core 2 family (not the newest Core i, even the Core i Sandy Bridge series). Here's the list of the supported CPU that your motherboard support.

For the memory, I recommend you that a very good brand such Team Elite, Corsair, or else. Here's the list of supported memory:

For power supply, you can take ThermalTake or CoolerMaster power supply, I recommend you take at least 500W as your power supply.

As for the VGA (video), it's up to your need, but I recommend you to take HIS as their cooling devices is very good.
