If you don’t see any frost on the suction line or big line on the furnace
(that goes from the furnace to the outdoor unit) and the filter and coil are clean then you are probably low on refrigerant.

Hi, if this is a split system with a remote condenser It sounds as though you are having a problem with the thermostatic expansion valve on the heating cycle. If indeed this is a heat-pump, it has 2 metering devices that meter freon into the evaporator to heat or cool. The reversing valve changes the direction of the flow. If the condenser starts to ice up and shut down and repeat itself. I would say that is you're problem. This is something that would have to be changed by a service tech do to the equipment required to do this. I wish I could offer you a quick fix but I can not. You can let me know if this is a split system, and I may have other solutions for you, so get back to me on this please.
