Olympia typewriter carriage not moving and keys not responding

Pulled this old typewriter out of storage and turned it on. Worked for a millisecond then the carriage blocked and the keys stopped responding. I tried pressing code when powering on and pressing code & online, but nothing has happened. Is there anyway to fix this?

Be sure the pitch selection is correct. If it is set to PS when using a 10,12 or 15 pitch wheel it will select incorrect letters.

Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand if it will but feels a little gummy spray a little WD40 on the silver shafts that it slides on. If it won't move by hand look for debris in the carrier area.

Press margin release key, move carriage using backspace to where you want the left margin to be and press left margin set key. Repeat for the right margin, use space bar to advance the carriage and press the right margin set key instead.

Pulled my old Royal Academy out of storage and the keys and carriage won't move. The power turns on, but it won't do anything.

The belt ( usually a flat belt) is stretched, broken or needs cleaned. You can clean it with denatured alcohol and a cotton swab. Don 't have the unit on while doing this. After you clean the belt, turn it on. Might have to clean it a couple of times.
Hope this helps,

Printer just beeps and carriage wont move.

No...you may have broken wire or wires in the cable harness that runs from the carriage unit down to the PCB. The cable/carriage will have to be relaced if they are broken.

Mant portables have a lock to hold the carriage in place while in the case, on the rt. or left sides below the carriage.

Hope this helps
