Constant clicking every half-second as soon as you plug it in.
Hey guys, today my 38" RCA went on the fritz. I was watching the exciting display of files being transferred to my Xbox, when the TV looked like it shut off. You know how when you turn off CRT's (usually older ones) the picture converges to a dot or vertical line in the center? Well, it did that along with a clicking noise, which is the same sound it makes when it turns off, but it kept doing it....like every half second. So you see the shutting off converging thing along with a click, then half a second later the same thing, another half second same thing again, etc. The only way I could stop this cycle was by unplugging the unit from the back. After a few minutes, I plugged it back in and it starting doing the same thing right when it got plugged in. I went to the front of the TV and hit the power button. The green light went on, but it kept clicking. I pressed the power button again and the green light went off, but it kept clicking. So I unplugged the unit again and stopped messing around with it.
So, has anyone else ever encountered this before? I would appreciate any type of help I can get. Thanks.
Re: Constant clicking every half-second as soon as you...
I have the same problem-still troubleshooting...so far still not find the cause. DM1 power supply output voltages are operates correctly. Signal output of microprocessor up and down (no good) that turn on Q14105 and latch optical isolator U14102 to power the unit but both of ohmed out ok. it hard to troubleshoot the main board with power on.

OK for the start, try this unplugged your unit for about 60 sec. Then plugged it again and switch on. Does it help?
If not then dont connect your surge protector in line for the meantime. Power the unit. This is to isolate whether your surge protector is defective or not. Does it help?
If not, this could down to your high voltage section, if this is a crt tube tv. You might loose your flyback transformer, and or the horizontal output transistor. Checking its peripheral component is a must. That clicking noise is the relay, thus this have relay?
Hey Jim, The high voltage protection circuit has gone out on the D-board and will need to be replaced. The fuse to the power supply is probably fine. A good repair tech shouldn't charge over $125 for this and it only takes a couple of hours. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
