Which operating system ? and type of desktop computer ?
You should only need one or two discs but if your doing a full factory restore you wont need any dics unless you have installed the operating system individually on a computer.
Because you have neglected to provide more details i am unable to provide the correct procedure so here is an example
The HP Recovery Partition that comes pre-installed on most new HPs is like built-in insurance if your system becomes unstable or fails.
If the problem is severe enough, you may not be able to start the HP Desktop Recovery Manager from Windows but you can start it manually by following the steps below.

Disconnect all peripheral devices and power on the computer.
Press the F11 key after the computer first powers on to start the HP Recovery Manager.

Follow the on-screen instructions to back up recoverable files on the hard drive to an external drive or media.
Continue following the instructions to recover the hard drive to its original factory condition.
Click "Finish" when the recovery is complete.
Reconnect devices and reboot the computer.
Reinstall software and update Windows and HP to current settings.

Dear Gilbert,
(1) Do you HAVE to restore Windows? (2) Check out Linux - it is free & the various 'flavours' of Linux have great support user-networks. I suggest Ubuntu linux for a start. (3) If you have files; pictures/photos; music; etc. on the hard-drive that you want to save - try "Puppy linux" or a "Live" version of Ubuntu. Kind regards - Bruce Gilbert.

Obviously, you have misplaced some of the backup discs. The set size information is on the discs (and readable by the restore program).
The number of discs in the backup set depends on the type of optical disc and the amount of files on your hard drive. The backup software also matters. Please add a comment with more information about what program you used to write the backup and the size of your hard drive.
I wish that I had better news for you.

(A relatively small 20GB (after compression) of data could take 30 CDs. Most of my backups have been to Dual-layer DVDs. With 300-500GB hard drives, a clean install (first backup set) took 3 of them. After using the computers and getting patches and service patches, the backup set took 5 discs.)

I need to factory restore

Not enough information to answer. Need manufacturer and specific model number before we can help.

Generally, though, laptops come with one of three ways to restore.

1. The manufacturer supplies a restore disk. This can be a self-booting image of the original load, or it can be an OS disk and an accompanying drivers disk that needs to be installed to restore the unit.

2. The manufacturer provides an application on the drive that the user is supposed to use at the time of purchase to create a set of recovery disks. This application is usually a 1-time-only thing and you cannot make multiple recovery sets with the app, but you can burn copies of the disk(s) you make.

3. The manufacturer places a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive that allows the user to restore the original factory image. There is usually a hotkey combination written into the BIOS that will divert the boot to the recovery sector when pressed at bootup.

Some manufacturers offer both options 2 and 3. But if you got a set of recovery disks at time of purchase, chances are there is no recovery partition on the drive. Recovery partitions are nice and convenient until the problem is the hard drive itself.

If you can provide a specific model number, we may be able to better determine which type of recovery option(s) are available for you PC.

Just downloaded windows 10 on 2326s and when I start the computer after I log into conputer, windows just flashes. How can I restore back to factory settings?

Use the restore disks that came with your computer. If you upgraded to 10 and it went bad, you are screwed since the damage has already been done and there is no going back.

And if you do not have the restore disks you can always go the manufacturer's support on web and order the disks. OR, just install the OS from scratch without any of the software you had initially.

My computer will not let me restore it

If your using win7 you need restore disks from SONY or a retail version of WINDOWS depending on what this desktop is you will need x32 or x64 software. I don't know why but these companies do not normally provide restore disks. It is my recommendation to always get the retail disks with any new computer. OEM software stuff is for the birds.

Im trying to get my pc to go to its original settings factort restore

The only way to restore your computer to factory setting with all the software/bloatware as it came with your computer the first day you start it up, you will need the factory restore disk that came with the computer if one is provide, if not usually with e-machine product, which doesn't provide you with a factory restore disk, you will have to create one yourself using a dvd-r. Usually you will have to go the the emachine recovery/back up management option in your menu programs and use that program to make the factory restore disk, after making that disc, you will need to insert the disc, and shuit down the computer and restart it. It will prompt you to follow direction once the factory restore disk is boot up. Follow the directions and you should be good to go. If there isn't a recovery managment program or a factory restore disk provided, you will need to contact emachine up.... usually they can send you factory restore disk for a small fee.

Im trying to like wipe everything off of my computer so it wont run like **** nymore i dont knwo how o do it though and im not sure if i have all the disks i need to restore it once its wiped... i have the...

If it has windows xp, vista, or 7 then you can go to help and type in 'recovery' or 'restore' to an earlier date.

If you Recover, then it will go to the first day the computer was used and that is done without recovery disks.

Many if not all computers nowadays do not come with disks, but rely on the image stored ont he hard drive.

How do i restore my hp hdx18 to factory install settings? completely wipe it

Turn the computer off.
Turn the computer on, and look for a message like "press BLAH to enter System Recovery".
When you see the message, press the BLAH key.
This will start a complete "restore-to-factory" install of Windows.

Or, if you have a set of "System Recovery" CD/DVD disks from HP, then insert the 1st disk,
restart your computer, and select to boot your computer from the CD/DVD drive.

Or, there may be software already on your computer that lets you "burn" a set of "System Recovery" CD/DVD disks -- have 10 CD-R disks, and 5 DVD-R disks -- you may need to use most of these "blank" disks.

Not enough space on friends laptop

First you need to disable system restore on the drive to reclaim the missing space. To do this, you can do the following:
1. Go to Start > Control Panel > System
2. In System > Click on System Protection at the left side
3. In the System Protection Window > go to the System Protection Tab > then uncheck C: then hit Apply then OK

After disabling system restore, run disk clean up:
1. Go to Start > Computer > Right-click on C: > Disk Cleanup - make sure to check all of the files to be deleted to clear as much space as possible
2. After initially running Disk Cleanup you will now be able to see the More Options tab in the Disk Cleanup window > go to this tab then cleanup the System Restore and Shadow Copies to remove them completely
3. Enable the System Restore from the System Protection tab in System.
4. Resize the maximum amount of Shadow Copies that can be saved on the system, this will lock the System Restore feature from saving more than allocated amount. Run Command Prompt as administrator (go to Start > Programs > Accesories > then right-click on Command Prompt then Run as Administrator)
Set the maximum to whatever amount you feel is necessary. Setting it to 1GB should be more than enough for System Restore to create at least two restore points. Type the command: vssadmin resize shadowstorage /on=c: /for=c: /maxsize=1gb

5. Once this is done you should have reclaimed at least 30 to 40% of the missing space. Once the System Restore has been reenabled it will automatically create the restore points so there will be no need to manually create one.

Blue Screen and Computer freeze after using Memorex CD-R & DVD RW

Is it possible to try this drive in another PC? My recommendatoin, if the drive performs to specs in the other PC, would be to perform a System Restore (not the XP one, but rather the one that uses the HP disks). If you do decide to do the restore, be sure to backup anything that is irreplacable as the restore will put your system back to factory settings. Good luck!
