Question about Dell Alienware Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My grand daughter has a Alienware computer, she gets a black screen with the message saying file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEMS32\CONFIG\SYSTEM\ how can it be fixed with having software?

It ask for a configuration disk which her stepfather does not have, is there any other solutions? I walked her through all the solutions that I could from my end since I don't have the computer in front of me to work with it. Every time she would complete the process it would loop back to the black screen, sure if this was any help to you or not. But by me not seeing the computer this is all the information I can give.

If you press "F8" while starting the computer you will find the "Repair Screen" (for want of a better description.) here you can restore the computer to an earlier date- before it went wrong.Or reset the computer to the factory default. This last one will wipe out all of the music, pictures and videos you have on it(also any games and save data). You could also use a Windows disc(the windows on your computer XP, Vista or 7) to repair the fault.

My computer froze in the middle of playing a game. I rebooted the computer and now a black screen comes up an it says Operating System cannot be found.

The problem is caused by corruption in the window files or there is a hard drive issue. Remove the hardware and reseat it back in place, sometimes this will cure the problem, if no change! use the recovery disc to reload the operational system if available. The last resort is to have the hard drive tested to see if it can be salvaged before replacing it.

I tried to restore my sister laptop..but i got a message saying restore failed..so when i tried to restart the computer...i just got a black screen with the message NTLDR IS MISSING...Press ctrl+alt+Del...

Hi there, I did a bit of research on this for you and this is what I found:
First off, there are numerous causes which could be giving you this message. Odds are it's because reformatting wasn't completed properly, which means something on your computer hasn't been set up properly.
Computer is booting from a non-bootable source. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS. Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32. New hard disk drive being added. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable. Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS.

Does dskchck & freezes if cancelled goes black & only cursor show

That's a common problem with Vista...you'll need to restart your computer. Start back up in safe mode...by pressing F8 at the boot screen. then restart your computer normally through the start menu. After this I would find a good copy of Windows XP Professional and back up my data, and install XP over vista.

try to boot the computer using the recovery disc in it, sounds like some operating system files are gone or corrupted, booting from the disc should reinstall the os, or the missing files, but it will check for hardware problems anyways......hope this helps...shia

I start up my computer, I get a black screen that says press F1, after I do that I get a black screen with a message that reads, operating system not functioning

Hi,

Have you take note the error message about the operating system? does it say a corrupted windows file?

With regard to the error message about F1 to continue, i would say that your hard drive is looking for the operating system. There is a possibility that your operating system is corrupted due a virus infected file or a system file was accidentally deleted from your computer or it could be an issue with your hard drive itself.

You may need to check also if your hard drive is detected by computer. You may call your computer manufacturer if your system still under warranty. In case the hard drive need to be replaced.

I suggesst to run a system diagnostics first to check if the hard drive still functioning before you run windows repair using the operating disc you have with your system.

Keep me posted.

Compaq Presario 1700 PC Notebook Problem gives me a screen windows will not strat because file is corrupted or missing file is \windows\system32\config\system

Is this XP?
Do you have the XP cd or the recovery cd's. This needs to be fixed by performing a Windows repair.
missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system"means that the OS,XP, is missing an essential file to run.
Or it could mean that your hard drive is failing. Is the hard drive noisey?
