SOURCE: Gateway MT6451 Does not turn on
Probably the mainboard or flaky power supply.
I'd start by replacing the power supply. Buy one you can use in a new machine, though... or "borrow" one from another machine.

Sounds like you only have power going to your motherboard.
The power supply might be bad on it, that or maybe the power cord is going bad and is only letting a small amount go through. I don't see why there should be a problem if you have even a little bit of power going though.

Make sure that the CPU fan is clean and free to turn. The main fan should have a connector with 3 wires. Two are for power and the third returns the fan revolution count. If the fan is not being seen as spinning, the system will shutdown.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable
Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..
Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...
If it works, great!!!
Otherwise, take it for repair..
